The 26th Amendment (passed and ratified in 1971) prevents states from setting a voting age higher than 18.

Had no idea 18-20 year olds mostly couldn’t vote for the person that could send them off to war.

That was the rationale for LOWERING the drinking age to 18 - back in the day. Kids would return from war 2-3 yrs after getting drafted and couldnt buy a beer.

I have truly pondered that irony for years- and finally reached the conclusion that the two are simply unrelated.

HOLLY CHIT!!!...

This just remembered me about signing up for Selective Service 42 years ago (1979) at the post office-on my birthday. It was the thing to do back then- though I was still in the first semester of my senior year of high school and also planned to go to college.

Use to listen to Click and Clack most every Sunday back in the late 90's early 2000's when they still did the show.

Fond memories... There was a guy that I worked with that had a big garage in back of the house with a mini machine shop, overhead crane, and every tool that you can imagine. Anytime my vehicle needed routine maintenance (brakes, oil change, ball joints, tie rod guard lubrication) I would take it to his house.

If I franked it up or ran into a snag (seized bolt, stripped bolt, snapped off a wizzy wig thinga do hickey) he could fix it. He was a mechanical wizard and an awesome machinist. We'd sit around eating doughnuts, drinking coffee, shoot the $hit and listen to Click and Clack.

Maybe try some lube next time. Ripping the skin off of your nuts is probably rather painful.

In the song Devil Went Down to Georgia, Charlie Daniels himself fiddled both the Devil and Johnny parts in the song.

In Leave It To Beaver, part of Ward’s background is he was in the SeaBees in the South Pacific.
Being they weren’t organized until 1942, and season 1 was 1957 and Wally is 13, the math works.

So you're saying he was a little hard on the beaver before deployment?

I'm a savin'!

On the bright side, the model I'm looking for isn't made any more. Just have to hope it doesn't go all collectible

Polar bears have black skin. And actually, their fur isn’t white—it’s see-through, so it appears white as it reflects light.

The dog ate John Steinbeck’s homework—literally. The author’s pup chewed up an early version of Of Mice and Men. “I was pretty mad, but the poor fellow may have been acting critically,” he wrote.

That's my second choice. It's the last model Carroll had a hand in creating, but is going for about the same price as my first choice, the GT350.

Neither of which I have the cash for right this second.

Ya can get a newer 2017-18 for around $55-60K.

If you want a real 1966 that will run about $250K or more.

Well there's want and there's want. I'd be thrilled with an original, but can't fathom paying the price of a small house for a car.

A couple more years of budgeting and saving for car the price of a single wide does seem doable though.

Pomegranate season. Grocery stores here have them coming in by the crate full. I love pomegranates but I always make a mess to get at the fruit... until I learned the way to do it right.

Pretty common tree in AZ. We used to steal them from a farmer's front yard when I was a kid. One day he caught us and said we could have all we wanted. Killed the fun. We never went back.

Daniels must be some kinda macho to convince the Devil and Johnny to let him fiddle with their parts at the same time...

Sad. Funny, in my family, I got yelled at for wanting to pay at a restaurant, it was like I was committing a crime, same for the inlaws. Of course, that just made me more determined to pay. Growing up our sons have paid for restaurant meals many times, I'm proud of their independence and would never want to undermine it by insisting I pay.

Hint, if you want the bill to come to you, let the server know you're the best tipper, argument settled.

I like finding new and creative ways to get the check first. Bathroom breaks are a good cover. Those pay at the table tablets were awesome for at least 3 visits before the FIL caught me.

took the granddaughter to a science show/entertainer today.
I learned that there is no such thing as suction, doesn't exist!

What we presume is the act of suctioning is actually air pushing from behind or above pushing objects we think are being suctioned...as into a vacuum.

Take a glass bowl, place a flammable object in it. Light the object on fire and put a ball over the opening of the bowl. When the fire consumes all of the air in the bowl, the air above the ball pushes it iinto the bowl, it is not sucked in.

The guy was better at this than me.

and he ruined certain sex acts.

This classifies as common knowledge - not recently acquired knowledge.

Fish is yucky. It tastes and smells like... fish. I love fishing, but my taste buds don't like eating them.
