Friday morning gents.

Sorry to hear of that situation Al. Been through it twice with in-laws and know it's tough to deal with.

Headed up to the mountain house for a look around to make sure everything is ready. Closing date is Nov 3rd. We also will be meeting with our realtor to look at two more homes. We had decided against buying another second home for awhile after we accepted the offer but these two just hit the market and both look promising. Both great view properties. Maybe.

8,000 steps-4.2 miles. Not quite Deadeyedick's 5 miles, but on the board.
He probably has a better view for his walks. Mine was nearly entirely in the basement.

I was gonna say, you’ve got quite a stride. Takes me around 10,000 to reach 4 miles. I’m guessing you’re on a treadmill?

It was actually 8,200 at the 4 mile mark. No treadmill. I do find that if I high step (ala Deion Sanders) it gets the heart rate up and may help the stride length.

Other than dog walks, most of the steps are on a yoga mat in the basement.

Vet said she was going to clip the dew claw and the quick... and it was gonna bleed, and it was gonna hurt, and she was gonna bandage it and give him some pain meds.

So I hadda ask... if we leave it alone, will it heal on its own? She said, yes, it will. So I said... great, gimme some pain meds for him and we'll let it heal on its own, without the extra pain.

Why would she even want to cause him more pain by cutting it down if it'll heal on its own? He's not limping. He does his hour walk in the morning. I just see that he's not himself and it is causing him some discomfort.

I figured vets would be about what's best for the DOG, not their wallet. It's not about the money, let's keep the dog as comfortable and pain free as we can. I'm not even sure how or when he did it. This little dude doesn't cry out. FFS he got hit by a damn car and never made a peep. No yelp, no whine... nada. He's a Tank.

Sounds like somebody has big student loans to pay off.

I recall some dog owners having dew claws removed, pretty much like ear and tail cutting, why?

dew claws are removed because of what happened to Tank... happens alot, especially on working dogs... ears and tails I'm real sure of.. maybe so there's nothing to grab and hold of they're fighting or hunting... or maybe just to keep them from looking goofy... Mellow

my Golden had her dews removed as a young pup by the breeders...

Do it as a pup, sure... but he has them and he's gone over 2 and a half years with no issues.

He's pretty stoic. I'll give him his half pain pill twice a day for 4 days (some sorta doggy ibuprofen). I just couldn't see giving him a local, cutting the nail and the quick, bandaging it... and when the local wore off, he'd be in more pain than he already was, for certain. Nah... nope... not gon' do it.

HI guys!

been busy dealing with my older sister and her health issues...sucks getting old, becoming arthritic and inflexible, losing your physical strength, mobility and vitality...which causes falls that lead to head injuries that lead to dementia and declining mental capacity...had to adjust her assisted living service level/schedule...mo money, of course...glad my wife is willing to manage my sister's personal business affairs and communications with her health care providers at Kaiser and elsewhere...I'm the logistics guy: have car will travel...

exhausting trying to get her to do the exercises recommended by Kaiser's physical therapists... trying to get her enrolled in an at-home physical therapy service to try to improve her leg and arm and core strength and balance...she'll prolly listen to and obey a stranger...maybe that will reduce the number of falls...and also enable her to get up when she falls, hopefully...

trying to arrange her place to make it safer and easier for her to get in and out of chairs, bed, bathroom, etc...

Big sister is more like a big kid nowadays, one who can't take care of herself...heartbreaking...

hope that merry-go-round isn't what's ahead for me, or any of you here in the CBid community, in the near future...

I'm truly sad to hear this Al.Prayers out for your sister , you and the rest of the family

Ya know... procrastination ain't so bad.

You'll have a purpose for tomorrow, something to do... and you can be lazy today. It's like a double bonus.

Had a Portillo's in Riverside, not far from the Riverside Jail. Those beef sammiches are good.

Dam good sammiches, especially when combined with sausage, hot peppers, and mozz

Newsflash: Healthcare is a for profit enterprise second only to pharmaceuticals. It’s not about what is best for the patient. It’s about individual Profit Centers. They don’t want the patient to die- they stop making money then.

Look up the medicine online and consider whether he needs the full dosage. If you can avoid it all together, even better.

Good luck, Tankster.

He's getting half dose. They actually even cut them in half for me. But if I find it online... I still need a script even for a dog, right?

Gave him a half pill last night. On our walk this morning he was wanting to jump around and play with every dog we saw. I think he's gonna pull through. lol

Working on leaves all week and they are still falling. Miss my truck- now I have to haul them up to 400 feet to the way back in the yard. Back to the leaves, or will I rototill the garden - maybe both.

Leaves are raining here when the wind blows even slightly. I swear, a lot actually, the trees organize to take turns dropping so there is a continuous supply of leaves for a longer time.

Only tree in my yard dropping leaves is a magnolia. There are some pine trees behind the fence dropping fkn needles though.

Pine tree needles are the worst. they jam up gutters and even get stuck in automobile hood vents. There are a couple of young pines not long for this world, the rest of our lot is hardwoods.
