I need a weekend from my weekend, too much kid stuff ran me ragged.

I did manage to put down pre-emergent on the winter lawn and sharpen a few knives, though, so not a total loss of productivity.

Happy soon-to-be Monday...

Slept in until almost 4:30 cuz it's a golf day and will get my miles in walking the course. Looks like 54/79 today and sunny with a good chance for beer and cigars.

Happy Monday gents.

I prefer to do my own.

1 - I control what type of oil/filter I use (quality materials)
2 - I know it is done right because I did it
3 - I enjoy doing it
4 - Costs less, even using quality stuff

Back the truck into the garage, turn on the tunes, crack a beer and get to it.

We need to pause this to add the latest BB Video in the Californians Move to Texas series.

Me too. The cost of changing it with Synthetic oil was the same as doing it myself.
In the new "covid" world, they changed me $100 to change it.

I'll go back to doing it myself...

Bought 12 quarts of Mobil 1, a Wix and a Toyota filter, and a wix air filter for the truck... grand total $140 to change the oil/filter in both vehicles and the air filter in the truck.

Haven't done the wife's car yet... just got it at 9150 miles and they said they already did the 10k. Checked the air filter and it was brand new... so when she hits 15k I'll change the oil.

Not at our house. Mrs. Beach is a candy corn fiend. I keep trying to tell her it's the most despicable form of sugar intake right after Necco Wafers

Agree with this 100%. Necco Wafers are (or were) made our here in the Boston area. I think they went under a few years back and someone else bought them out to keep making these tasteless chalky things.

Similar to Smarties and Sweet Tarts but without the required sugar and flavors. Neccos are like chewing on a piece of chalk.

I'd add the Easter peeps marshmallow things to the despicable candy list list too.

Yes! Peeps are also awful. And another favorite of the wife. Luckily, she's consistent though. She's got incredibly poor taste in spousal partners as well.

On another topic.... my fist endeavor on the e-bike thing. I first bought a conversion kit to convert my peddle bike into an e-bike (about $500 of stuff). Problem was the battery pack didn't fit in the main triangle of my trail bike (a rear shock absorber got in the way). I tried to get it to fit. I cut up the battery mounting kit and so forth but ended up punting. Then I bought an "all in one" bike one which I continue to use (I love this thing).

But I still had the Frankenstein set of stuff for converting over a regular bike to an e-bike. The bits and pieces from the conversion kit has been sitting in my closet for a year or so.

Neighbor kid (13 yrs old) knew I had the conversion parts and kept bugging me to give it/sell it to to him.

Me: "Dimitri, there's about $500 of parts here and I don't have all the owner's/install manuals. I can't in honest faith sell you of parts for something that you probably can't get to work on your bike" The kid was persistent. So I gave him all the stuff to get him off my back "if you can install it on your bike, then we'll discuss terms of sale later. If not then no big deal."

A week later, the kid had it installed and running on his bike, working on it after school and watching YouTube vids. He's "on the autistic spectrum" and is pretty good working with mechanical stuff. Once he got it running, we agreed to $200, with a $20/week payment plan as long as he does his chores around the house at home.

I can't take money from the kid. I'll probably just hold the money and give it back to him though his parents for Christmas or something.

In all my life I've never been exposed to kids with autism until the past couple of years. I have had the opportunity to work with a few and they amaze me. Like all of us, they have a special skill. But unlike me, their special skills seem to be amplified while other life skills that we take as normal are not and rank lower on the "spectrum."

I would love to to a Vulcan mind meld with a functional autistic person and be able to read what is going on within their brain.

Speaking of E-bikes... been seriously considering the "Lectric" bike with the upgraded battery and the cargo pkg. Mailbox is almost a mile away... sometimes I check it when I walk the dog, but if not it seems wasteful to start the truck to drive less than a mile.

Also... many stores are within 1-2 miles of the house. WalMart and Costco are about 5-6 miles. Again... if I am not getting a bunch of stuff, the bike seems to be a much better option than starting and stopping the truck without even getting it up to temp.

Have been back and forth on them. Many upsides- more upside than down. If I could get over one more downside, would pull the trigger.

Downsides:
Storage: can’t keep it in the garage from November through March. Don’t remember what the exact temperature they can live comfortably in. Want to say it was around 40.
Battery Instability: Been hearing about lithium battery fires in houses and apartments. Why is that happening?
Price: So many variables. Rear or mid engine mounts, weights, braking systems, throttles. Hate to go too cheap, although Bucky has had good luck with a $500 model. Am not mechanically inclined. The two bigger bike shops in the area only work on bikes they sell.

Would want to have a cargo package like Shawn mentions. Important to get a durable high end lock for it too. Crime isn’t a big issue here, although according to on sales rep, three were stolen in the last month. All were locked up. Somebody with a bolt cutters.

Is there any locking system which could foil a bolt cutter?
