And to tell if you have surround sound set up correctly, play the beginning of Star Wars IV. The ships should sound like they start behind you and fly over your head

If your speakers are REALLY good, can you determine who is singing on Have a Cigar???

Santana’s “Song of the Wind” when I want the “whoosing, left to right, right to left” thing. For booming bass, it’s “Statesboro Blues” from the Allman Brothers “Live at Fillmore East”.

Not exactly on topic, but makes me think of the time I had to use Live at Ludlow Garage to prove to a guy that Molly Hatchet was not in fact the first group to record Dreams. Dude was 20yrs my senior and a classic rock fan no less.

+1. Specifically the Overture.

(but sadly I sold all my vinyl and turntable years ago, my copy of 2112 was pretty used)

1983 Kenwood Basic M2 with Sigma Drive (rebuilt) driving 1985 Cerwin Vega D9's (recapped and refoamed). 400W RMS driving those 4ohm speaks. It'll make your heart palpitate in close quarters. It'll do.

That's my big system.

I love Rush and Floyd but if you REALLY want to give your system a work-out, play "The Late September Dogs" by Melissa Etheridge. Yeah, I know...Lesbian and whatever but whether you like the song or not, it'll work out your stereo

To my ears...the biggest test of any speaker is Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" but what do I know around monitor speakers.

May I suggest something, A Telarc CD from Eric Kunzel, Time Warp. The first tune on the album, "Accent"

Don't have your systemm set too loud before playing it the first time. You have been warned.

Obviously that guy wasn’t a fan of ABB as the studio version was on “Idlewild South” that was released in 1970. Then “Idlewild” and the Allman’s 1st album were combined on “Beginnings” (1973).

Didn’t know till just a few minutes ago that “Idlewild” and “Ludlow” were released together in a Super Deluxe Edition. For a brief moment I thought about buying it but checked myself. I already have both albums but haven’t listened to either one in at least 25 years so would have been rather pointless.

I’mma guessing that many on this site don’t know that there’s a l-o-n-g version of the song with a drum solo that, in our youth, a lot of us “old folks” used to imitate.

Somewhere in storage I have a box set of the 2nd album and a VHS tape of…I dunno. Never watched the tape so your guess is as good as mine but I’mma guessing it’s a live concert.

Some of us youngers know it. 'Course they were raised by old folks who exposed their kids to proper tunes
