I'm not the one trying to save the planet by telling everyone else to go electric.

It's like tryna remove sand from the beach one grain at a time. By the time it makes a difference the Earth will have expired and people will have been long gone, anyway.

The new GMC Denali EV truck costs around $108k and will only tow 9.5k lbs. What a joke. I can tow 1.5x more and my truck cost 1/4 of that. Granted I did buy mine used though.

How far can it tow those 9.5k pounds? 200 miles, at best?

I really don't understand the animosity toward perhaps a better, safer potential product...why are so many rooting against the possibility? The benefits to all and the enormous boost a perfected industry would have on employment, health, and wealth, around the world would be tremendous.

I think the key here is to be patient. In a few years or so Capitalism will have invested enough time and money into making batteries that do what we all need, and likely from aluminum and sulfur or some other very available base products (sodium?). End of China control and end of disposal dangers.

A few years, a few million dollars later the problem will be solved.

Corporations, universities and scientists have already begun the search.

Hang in there

You really don’t understand the animosity towards a GOVERNMENT MANDATE?

Capitalism is not driving this. Government, the religion of climate change, and corporate environmental, social & governance scores are driving this.

Perhaps a better safer potential product….
Employment….
Health….
Wealth….around the world! Lovely ideas. Could happen. There will be wealth created and surely spread amongst the masses! Well at least the costs will be spread amongst the masses!

I’m in the green energy industry. Everyone buy an electric vehicle. I recognized a long time ago to not stand in the way of government fueled juggernaut!

animosity toward a mandate? easily understood.

But maybe some here who love to believe conspiracy theories will like what I've been figuring for years now...even before it became apparent when the trash industry segued so smoothly into the recycling commandments that prompted many in the public to whine. it was getting tougher to find ways to get rid of refuse, so along came recycling a whole bunch of the chit. Jobs were created, social and health benefits ensued, and more wealth for the wealthy too...fast forward a few decades and a new "solution" will be coming to cities and towns near you soon cuz nothing lasts forever.
And the major players are still the major players.

Anyway, if people are gonna claim that our elected officials are in the pockets of Big Business, then doesn't it make sense that Big Business must want the mandates?
Who is better positioned to dominate the next generation of fuels and transportation than those already dominating them? They've know for decades the drilling and burning couldn't last forever, they ain't stoopid.

Yep.

I got nothing against electric vehicles. Hell, I just bought an electric bicycle.

But nobody made me do it. Nobody threatened to not allow me to buy a gas vehicle (see CA). And my OWN money was used to buy it. It was not subsidized with my tax dollars.

And more importantly, no douche-rocket was trying to virtue-signal me into buying one.

but in 2035...?
the mandate has been bought and paid for, and just needs to be eased in for people to get comfortable...like recycling.
It's now a very normal part of everyday life. But it wasn't an immediate hit.

So you see this as a political issue.

I see it with engineering eyes. And no - I did not buy an EV to save the planet.
In fact, it was not even a real consideration.

It absolutely is political. It is being driven by government policy, not technology advancements. That’s why it needs government mandates and massive subsidies.

Let's also get rid of warning labels, the people that need them are the same ones who need the mandates. Things will get back under control really fast after we get rid of the ones who can't think for themselves.

Recycling. Government created, mandated, and subsidized. Anyone can segue into a subsidy! Jobs were created, social and health ensued, and everyone’s costs went up.

If the government mandated that every single family home must have a tree house in the backyard, the treehouse building and maintenance industry will go wild, jobs will be created and social and health benefits will ensue.

Centralized planned economy by the government for the greater good as deemed by the government.

Remember when Hammering Hank Aaron broke the home run record? That crack of the bat...that ball screaming out of the park...that sauntering stroll around the bases being manhandled by fans and opposing teams and teammates alike?

Did anyone forget? Here then...https://youtu.be/QjqYThEVoSQ

That's this post. In a nutshell. A record homerun. SMASHED OUT OF THE PARK.

Even after Covid...this is how small their collective memory is. DUH! Now, this...their coveted religion. The sham of all shams...temperatures rising 1.0 degree over time for the last 100 years. Ignoring the facts that we've had ice ages...but no, let's chuck the petroleum industry, the nuclear and coal powered energy industry, the economy of nations all over the globe...and common sense.

Here we go again with the CFCs, LED, seatbelts argument as to why government should dictate everything and the people should serve the government. Storm the Capitol yay!

you're missing the connecting piece. who really wanted the government to mandate recycling and was in position to get the electorate to do exactly that?

I'm betting it wasn't the hippie girls with leg hair.

Better chance it was Tony Soprano, or maybe Waste Management, Republic, etc.

So did the government want it and offer the affected companies enough money to go along with it or did the affected companies want it and lobby and bribe the government? Both happen.

Now I know that many people have a vested interest in not seeing EV's proliferate. And by vested, I mean money.

And I know that many here will be quick to say that NO government agency can ever be trusted to get information from (especially not the CDC).

But, for what it's worth.

Here is the US Environmental Protection Agency on the EV subject.

Honest as I can be with you Le HockeyDad, the one thing I did NOT like about my car was that is electric.
But as it turns out, it's the way to go for a lot of reasons.

No - I cannot drive for 300 miles to the middle of nowhere and find gas as easy as a charger.
Yes - it takes 15 minutes to charge rather that 5 minutes to refill.

But a 350 mile charge costs $11.48, and I never stop at a gas station.

And it is god damn fast.

And it effin drives itself - no, really - it does.

I remember my parents leaving empty milk bottles in the box on the stoop for the milkman (ours was a man) to take at the next delivery, but no money lost nor earned.

Don't remember brown bags going anywhere other than in my recycling bin.

but, at least around here, beer bottles and cans, soda bottles and cans, etc. etc. had deposits charged to make people feel like they were throwing away money when they littered...idiots used to throw bottles and cans out of the car windows.
Somehow, turning that disrespectful act into throwing away money worked.
At least in MA...much less road side trash.

I think the redeemable money deposits above and recycling glass/plastics/newsprint/cans etc are mutually exclusive acts of recycling.

I lost faith in recycling. I'm not opposed to the idea, but around here it's a hoax. A guy in waste management said they used to separate items, but it was determined to be too costly, so it all gets dumped now. They still have the different colored bins, but only for the optics.

in another thread I mentioned how it's time for certain industries to put the touch on government to reimagine recycling...I used different words, but you get the point. (I don't want HD to yell at me again).
