locals are calling for 3 to 4 FEET of snow in your neck of the woods!
The short amount of time I spent in Seneca Falls (3 semesters) taught me it snows for real up there...maybe the only thing I learned or they wouldn't have insisted I leave...

Stay safe.

I’ve had a guitar body stuck in MA UPS facility for three days, that is bothering me more than the Buffalo Bills logistics issues.

They opened the Buffalo International airport today.
We got smacked here with about 2.5 feet of snow yesterday, the southern burbs go the worst of it, 77 inches they say in some parts. It's a little early for this chit but no big deal, there's been worse
Some people say it was caused by climate change and burning fossil fuels and the government needs to do something about it. fog
Another snow front is heading to the Northern burbs up to Niagara Falls today I guess

gotta think under the right (wrong?) conditions the humidity from the Great Lakes has to add a lot with lake effect snow.

That's why they call it "lake effect snow".
Cloud systems pick up lots of evaporating moisture traveling over large bodies of water. Your ocean storm systems like your Nor’easters can intensify similarly.

Back in the day as a recent UW college grad I moved from Madison to MA. Bought a new bare bones Ford Ranger to move my limited amount of belongings from my college apt. First trip from WI to MA went pretty smooth. Stayed at my brother's in-laws for a few months until I found an apt.

After finding one, I went back a few months later to pick up the rest of my stuff. It's about a 20 hr drive one way so it's best to take a pit stop somewhere half way. Grab a hotel room or catch a nap in the truck at a truck stop. On the return trip took I-90 all the way which takes you through Buffalo and skirts the Great Lakes. Buffalo, NY area was going to be my half way point for a rest before the final leg of the journey. I ran into a lake effect snow storm as I was passing by Cleveland. Made it to Buffalo and it was getting to white out conditions. Pulled off at a truck stop to park and catch some zzz's thinking I could wait it out.

It only took a few hours before the snow was about 3 feet deep (luckily it was light and fluffy snow). At that point I figured I better get going before I was completely snow bound. Couple of truckers helped me dig out so I could the little rear wheel drive Ranger back on the road.

I'm not a fan of winter.

The funny thing about Western NY and the Buffalo area is that we don't usually get as much snow as the weather channel makes people believe. There are years when I've only used my slow blower once or twice a winter.

Towns and cities further inland to the east can have higher average snowfalls. Rochester gets slightly more than Buffalo, about 5-6" more on average, Syracuse gets about 30 inches/yr on average more snow than Buffalo.
A lot depends on the temperatures over the Great Lakes, if temperatures are below freezing early on and the surface of the lakes freeze over, there will be less lake chance of Lake effect snow. Towns to the East and Southeast of Lake Ontario into central NY usually get more snow squalls later into the winter because Lake Ontario is deeper and doesn't freeze over as much or as fast as Lake Erie. There are other variables though that can change things one way or another.

Oddly enough, I'd rather move back home in WI. Both parents are getting old and frail and I want be there to carry the burden that my brother and sister are doing. We planted the seed that they might need to be in an assisted living place/condo with no stairs, no worries on doing yard work and stuff. They are stubborn and not on board with this idea.

February 1978.
The storm that will live on in infamy here in New England.

THE blizzard of '78.

Folks talk about it like it was end of days.
Yes, drifts could be over 12' high due to the winds. But total snowfall was mostly below 30". For every 6 foot drift there was barely a dusting from where the wind swept it away.

30" and today's grandparents are able to get their grand kids to willingly put down their phones and VR headsets just to listen to the stories of snow-mageddon.

77"
I can't even begin to pretend that I could comprehend that much snow in one storm.

I love snow. I love New England winters.
77"?
Nope.
No thank you.

Perhaps we have the same parents.

Yep, I'd just pack it in and take up hibernation.

I think it was '78 when dad carved out a snow fort for me. Didn't have to build it. Just excavated

Nobody talks about the Blizzard of '78 in the Buffalo area. Now that blizzard of '77, that was the mother of all blizzards, the perfect storm of snow and ice! But even it is falling down the memory whole like the Flood of 1844.

I remember a long ride and long walk to get home in the blizzard of '78. CT state roads were closed for 3 days.

I remember not being able to identify where the cars were. The snow buried them completely. I also remember digging tunnels in the neighborhood. The snow was deeper than I was tall... I was 9.
