There is also this idea that objective cognitive functioning can impair the ability to accurately report cognitive functioning status. There was this study a while back that indicated that among a group of individuals who were categorized as cognitively intact, below average, moderately impaired, and severely impaired (e.g., dementia or advanced stage Multiple Sclerosis) and found that folks in the below average range reported poorer cognitive functioning than folks in the moderately impaired and severly impaired condition.
