I’ve been busy. Smoked one cigar in November. The whole month….one cigar.

Initial observations:

They run red lights here. Always.

They build roads here. Big roads. Wide roads. Stacked high roads. Roads that can only be dreamed of in California. In California they raise taxes for roads but they don’t build roads.

Galveston is kinda cool. Reminds me of Santa Cruz but with real industry too. (Oil)

I found a butcher that will cut bison ribeyes to order. This pleases me.

Lady Antebellum should not have changed their name.

House appraisal and inspections were yesterday. Inspections flagged a few things and some ticky-tack things.

The book I read was about the golf coast from Galveston down to Corpus Christy mentioning many small crabbing and shrimping areas where the locals fought to drive out the refugee competition and the pollution from the chemical plants.

St Augustine is on my list as an area of Florida I haven’t lived. Melbourne as well. My brother is pushing Fort Myers since he just moved down there.

The area got clobbered but his neighborhood is fine. He’s got one palm tree with a pretty good lean to it that prolly needs to get removed. There are definitely areas that still look like a war zone.

A while ago I walked through the room as my wife was watching some home design reality show shot in Texas. I swear all the furniture in that state is made from pallets and ship-lap...

Got a drivers license and ate at Whataburger yesterday.

Heading to Buc-ees today.

House sale moving along. Dealing with transferring Tesla solar panels is a pain in the ass.

Never go solar... you'll be dead before the ROI is realized.

Huh... didn't realize I knew anyone in Arizona except you. HA!

It was not right for me in CA, and it is definitely not right for me here in FL. My electric/water/sewage (they combine it in one bill here in Jax) for this month is $139. When my AC was running non-freakin-stop in September it was about $100 more... and I was watering my lawn every day.

What's the average price of a solar system? Anywhere from 25-30k? Not gonna start making money on that loss for at least 10 years, and that's if you pay cash for it and own it, outright.

That's MY situation. If you've got a bigger house with 2 AC units and a pool with a heater... YMMV.

Only thing that is keeping me from doing it right now is my roof which is as old as the house about 30 years old. Not sure putting in solar panels on a roof that may be nearing replacement is smart.

Well, I always knew you were nuts but that is beside the point.Angel
Some of my neighbors have said they reached ROI in under 5 years and others have not had it that long but agree it looks like they will be there in under 6 years. Some are on a rental plan. The rebates up front can total as much as 30% of the cost up front.

Solar made sense in Northern California because we bankrupted P G & E twice so my base rate was 31 cents and Tesla was 18 cents. My base rate here in 13 cents and there is not a single solar panel in the neighborhood.

You need government interference and manipulation to make it work.

This is why everyone has to look at it individually. Like Le HD said... in NorCal and some areas of SoCal it makes sense, because the power companies rape you. Some of them are in kahoots with the solar companies and use the power YOU generate without paying you for it, or paying you pennies on the dollar for what they charge.

Yes, the government takes other people's money to make it work.

Update:

The California house sold and closed on December 29. We are totally out of California and enjoying Sugar Land Texas.

There are things we will always miss about California but we can visit and not have to deal with living there.

The next step is where we move next. This is not permanent spot for us but I figure we are here for 1.5 years. Maybe that will be a new thread one day!
