Back in the early 80's I went to a Ted Nugent concert when the MCM was still wearing a loincloth and swinging from ropes onstage. Anyway there were two opening acts.

The first act was some german band I'd never heard of called the Skorpions. Who would have known that shortly thereafter the would hit big time with a song called "Rock You Like a Hurricane"

After them was an equally unknown band that when announced it sounded like Death Leopard. Who would have known the would hit the big time with mega hits like "Pour Some Sugar on Me"

I was lucky to be a teenager growing up in the '80's. Luckier still now that I have a teenaged son who enjoys the same music I still love and who also loves going to concerts featuring those "old" bands.

My only regret is when Lynyrd Skynyrd is in the area, they only seeme to play the casinos. Since he is not yet 21, he can't go.

OUCH!

I've got both of them on my Pandora radio station list.

Pray

Never got to see KISS. They came through town when I was grounded. Imagine that!!!

For what Gene charges for tickets, I'm not sure I would go see them as long as Peter and Ace are persona non grata.

Sad

I'm a bit younger than you, Anthony. (41). I went to a concert when I was just a kid to see Ozzy (formerly of Black Sabbath) first solo tour. A great band of kids not a whole lot older than me opened up the show here in N.O., yep, Metallica. A real metalhead was born that day. I spent allot of time after that chasing all things Metallica. I saw Faith No More at Jed's on Oak street before they made it, too.

Good memories! I Wasn't worried about anything important then. I just didn't know any better. Bliss.

first concert was David Lee Roth Eat em & Smile

Went wholly on the premise that Steve Vai & Billy Sheehan were in the band. Some "unknown" group at the time named Cinderella opened

great show

Mine was Peter Frampton in '79 I think. I was 14 or 15. My sister and I managed to out run everyone when they opened the doors at the LSU Assmbley Center, now known as the PMAC. Front and center on the barricades. Looked up the whole night. Haven't stood on the front row since.

Similar, wish I could remember, so many, started somewhere around then as well, you and I must be within months of the same age. Many of the acts would hit Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, Dallas, Houston.

Coulda been Raisin' Kane, Rush, or Thin Lizzy, Nazareth, Journey, wish I still had the old ticket stubs, once did, old high school GF chunked 'em I think? I started somewhere in 76 or 77 myself.

Probably not going to The Chili Peppers concert, but, would love to herf, if the timing is right. Just give me a holler next time you are in the N.O. area.

I'll be in Red Stick today to visit my Dad in the hospital. (back surgery) Seems we'll miss each other today, sadly. I won't be missin' T.J. Ribs, however. My wife hasn't eaten there before, and is in for a treat. LOL!

You? Or the band?

I saw them in '77. Worst concert I've ever been to. Tyler was so wasted he didn't hit a single note all night. Huge waste of $9.00. Brownsville Station opened. And were better.

Went to, imo, great concerts in the late ‘60s and ‘70s. Slowed down considerably in the ‘80s and later. No way I could name all of the artists I’ve seen but off the top of my head:

Aerosmith
Al Green with the Stylistics opening for The Rev
Allman Brothers - “Brothers and Sisters” tour
America
Beach Boys - twice, maybe 3 times
Bette Midler - an unknown Barry Manilow was her music director
Bob Marley
Boz Scaggs
Chambers Brothers - Taj Mahal was also supposed to play that night too but called in sick 🤒
Dan Fogelberg
Eagles - twice - original lineup + Don Felder then later with Joe Walsh
Elton John - 3 times
Elvin Bishop
Eric Clapton - 3 times in the’70s then 2007 and 2010
Faces
Fleetwood Mac - pre-Buckingham & Nicks
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Frank Zappa - on my 18th birthday!
George Thorogood - he started his “50 States in 50 Nights” tour in Hawaii
Grateful Dead - triple bill with Quicksilver Messenger Service and The New Riders of the Purple Sage
Hall & Oates
J. Geils Band
Jackson Browne with Linda Ronstadt opening
James Taylor
Jeff Beck - first as Beck, Bogert & Appice then solo
Jesse Colin Young - twice
Jethro Tull
Jimi Hendrix
Joe Cocker
John Mayall with Kim Simmonds opening
Led Zeppelin
Lee Michaels with Chuck Berry opening
Linda Ronstadt - right after she went solo
Little Feat - twice - their very first gig was in Hawaii
Loggins & Messina - 3 times
Mark-Almond Band
Pat Benatar
Return to Forever
Rod Stewart
Rolling Stones twice - first time with ZZ Top opening and then 25 years later with Jonny Lang opening
Santana-McLaughlin
Smokey Robinson
Steely Dan
Stephen Stills
Stevie Ray Vaughan with the Fabulous Thunderbirds opening
Stevie Wonder
Todd Rundgren and Utopia
Tower of Power - 3 times
Van Morrison - once in the ‘70s and then 2019
War - at least twice
Young Rascals then twice as The Rascals

I’mma sure I missed a few (…and some I wouldn’t want to list…) but my head and fingers need a rest.

Edit: I saw the Bus Boys - they kinda disappeared after their 2nd album.

Just thinking about the amount of illegal substances consumed by those acts and the majority of their crowds.

I got to see Uncle Ted a few years ago, he was great.

One concert surprise I experienced was going to see the RHCP in Portland when they had Dave Navarro was playing guitar. The first opening band was “Bong Water” you could tell the sound was purposely lowered (and thank Christ as they SUKKED) but the second opening band was The Toadies and I’d only heard their one song on the radio “Possum kingdom”. The sound was much better on their set and holy 💩 they were like the first time I listened to a Led Zeppelin album….that same feeling. Then the RHCH took the stage and we’re just the RHCP. Yeah they were great and I’d been a fan for a long time but it was like learning something you knew wasn’t common knowledge.

Another one like that was going to the Hoarde Tour in 94 and hearing Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Same thing one radio song and their set killed and left me wondering what radio jackass WASN’T listening to whole albums are were just rolling whatever single a record company told them to.

JLL is one that *I think* I saw but can’t really recall. Yet, I can picture us sitting in the Loges, behind Stage Left and Jerry pounding the chit outta his piano.

Yup, back in those days / daze, “stuff” was passed around freely…and not always the green burning lil’ “sticks”. The best was the Bob Marley concert. Took my GF (…now wife…) and talk about the ganja! We both got 2nd hand stoned!

I saw Terrible Ted OPEN for Aerosmith in the early 80's. Why the hell anyone would have Ted F-ing Nugent open for them is beyond me but he was fantastic. Swung out on the stage wearing his loin cloth and was insanely high energy. And then Aerosmith came out all smacked out and were booed off the stage after about .5 hour. Terrible.

First true concert was No Nukes at Madison Square Garden in September '79. Peter Tosh, Jackson Browne, Bonny Raitt, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Incredible line up for a single evening.
You always remember your first....tough act to follow.
