Makes me wonder how many one time type, drive by bidders show up. Quick comparo to what they see at B&M or some of the heftier onlline pricing....bang and pull the trigger.

Interesting I put in a bid on a single a few weeks ago with a max bid of something like $30 something.........at the time I had mistaken the lot for a fiver or a tenner. CBid kicked back my bid and said something like, "max bid is fuqqin stupid. are you sure?" I looked at the lot and realized it was a single.

^You aren't joking...

The common stuff I was getting at $10-$12/five-pack a year ago is now going for $18-$25/fiver...

Yeah. I just saw some MB3s selling for $27 per 5 pack. It's a pretty big auction too, 25 lots. I looked at my orders, and last November I paid $12. Almost everything is like that.

You got that right. And what really gets me is ,must be new-be’s that bud higher than cigar stores. If they want to pay top dollar why don’t they shop at expensive cigars shops..Some of these jokers pay 2 or 3 $ more then the really high price shops that usually go out of business…

They still go for 15-18 a fiver at the other place…………...occasionally…

I smoked one of those for the first time last night. It was ok, but didn't seem all that special to me.

I might go $25k - $30k for a box, tops.

Did I overbid on these? I usually see these going for much more but this unit size was a lot higher, so I got a better entry. Oliva All-Star Flight Sampler #2
15 Cigars
1 0 1 $44.00 $44.00
Oliva 5-Star #2 Sampler
5 Cigars
1 0 1 $13.00 $13.00

Oh crap, I did overpay Brick wall

Its OK Greg, all part of the growth process.
At least you didn’t buy crap. Oliva makes decent stuff, and some pretty good stuff.

That 15 cigar sampler is possibly one of the worst anyone could come up with at least for me. Never smoking a Gilberto I liked, don't care for the G's and don't like the o's as much as I once did.

Well I’m guilty as charged.
Didnt really look at what was in the sampler.
I figured a traditional mix of Oliva, O, G, MB3, some Vs, some Melanio….

Gilbertos, Gs and Os?
Meh….

But just the MSRP for those is…………………………..stupid.
Then again, I have not tried one and they may in fact be a $20+ cigar…

Hey there. I'm new to this site and just here to try to find singles and five packs to try because there isn't a great variety where I live. Is there an average winning bid you all have seen compared to MSRP? Like, do winning bids usually go at 50% of MSRP, 75%, or over MSRP? Does it depend on what the lot is? I don't want to overbid - just want to realistic bids.

Thanks

Hard to say how much under MSRP (if under MSRP) you will get. Depends on the lot and the lot of idjuts bidding on it.

My suggestion is to use the Lot Watch function. Add the stuff you are interested in, watch them, get an idea of what they're going for. Lot Watch is your friend.

Funky, easy peezy way is check what ceegars you are interested in
the CI (Cigars International) on line or their catalog . Watch the bids and bid accordingly to save the percentage off their catalog prices. Your best bet is bidding on Free Fall auction. Just remember be patient and watch out for the lowest price and bid for it. Other auctions run for days and usually some IDIOT will out bid you. Good luck and happy bidding.

There is really no scientific method for bidding that works well. I spent 2 weeks bidding not long ago and won nothing. Comparison to prices or MSRP will vary, so it's best to know what you want and what you can buy it for elsewhere. Right now bids on the auctions are crazy and sniping in the last minute is heavy.

Hey Funky, I posted a link to a freefall tracker a while back, but I’m too lazy to find it.
On FF, just remember the “drop” amount is always the same.
So you want to watch for the lowest start amount.
Just watch one lot for 5-10 cycles, and you’ll get the hang of it.

That’s kinda the sad part about the auctions now, the limited offerings (…due to various reasons…) and pricing make it less possible and appealing to find and bid on smokes you’re curious about.

Well, that and the palate growth contributed to my declining (…and now dead…) interest in checking out the bids here.

Hahahahahahahaha! Thank you, thank you. You might be the first person that’s ever called me that! Laugh

But to be honest, I have a buncha beginner level smokes that I have a hard time getting to because I have so many “good” smokes. They’re good / good+, not really at the high-end elitist level (…although I have those too…). Like many, I save the high-end stuff for special occasions ‘cause i know I’ll probably never buy more of them. Fo’ sure iffin’ I had the coin to smoke only super premiums, I’d do it in a heartbeat…but I don’t. Not talking Sad

I’m no elitist, but quit smoking junk......well, what I consider junk, long ago.
However, I do like Papas Fritas, and many here consider them junk. That said I won’t pay what they go for these days.

Komrade 13, you should know that we (…collectively…) “liberated” those Super Premium “Elite” cigars from the rich capitalist! For the sake of the people (…so they wouldn’t be exposed to such materialistic things…), we were tasked to burn each one. Since it is a daunting task, as good Commies, each of us was asked to do our share. I could have sworn that Commie 7 sent out your box of smokes…no? Think

Re winning bid vs MSRP, it all comes down to availability and desirability. Big brands from major manufacturers can be had for 25% of MSRP or less on this site. Brands with more buzz and lower production, like Tatuaje, Warped, RoMa Craft, and Illusione, will go for 60% to 100% of MSRP. Desirable, high-production brands like My Father go for similar prices. Luxury brands like Davidoff and Ashton sell for about the same price as you can get them for on sale elsewhere. The only true overbid is one that exceeds what you could pay elsewhere. The biggest mistakes regarding overbids seem to involve drunk bastids mistaking the current and max bid fields or forgetting the decimal.

I’ll second researching sale prices on competitors’ sites and carefully watching free fall. Another good tactic with fivers and singles is looking for auctions with a high quantity of lots, as there will be less competition. Browse all lots and sort by quantity. Keep a list of cigars you hope to purchase and search them 2-3 times weekly. If you want to try a bunch of different cigars without spending too much, browse the 10 and 20-cigar samplers available on other sites.

I recently won this bid for $25. I’ve never smoked an Oliva and I got a nifty little box lol. I hope I’m not paying a lot more for just the box.

1 - Oliva Serie ’G’ Belicoso Maduro (5" x 52)
1 - Oliva Serie ’G’ Toro Natural (6" x 50)
1 - Oliva Serie ’O’ Perfecto Natural (5" x 55)
1 - Oliva Serie ’O’ Robusto Maduro (5" x 50)
1 - Oliva Serie ’V’ Double Robusto Natural (5" x 54)
1 - Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto (5" x 50)

$25 yeah.. you overbid. Not terribly. Maybe you'll love em. But thems $3 cigars

But you get a box. I reuse my boxes. When I buy a ton of 5 packs I stuff some into boxes and put em in box storage so they don't eat up limited space in singles storage.

Eh, these days? Not by much, and, as noted, ya gets a box…….you’ll find some use for it.

Probably the Special G. I really liked the Maduro version and bought a few boxes of those when they were readily available for under $2 per at the other auction place.

Ima say smoke the connie and let the others rest for at least a few months. I have a few Os and Gs and they didn't do anything for me after 2-3 months. I'm willing to ash them since it's been a year. I'll see if they improved.

And overbid? A little. $17-$18 if you really want them.
