thoughts about recent cigars I've had:
Partagas, great taste and flavor, draw is always too tight.
Carlos Torano, from an auction here last fall, the big Churchill is a true delight, very flavorful and light.
H. Upman, draw is normally tight, goes out easily, and a very juicy cigar, decent taste.
Leon Jimenes, pretty boring
Astral, can burn hot, dry woody taste
El Original, people, you need to find this cigar!! In fact I should do a post just on this cigar. My interest was perked a few months ago in Smoke when it was given the best write up I have seen, not by numbers, I don't go buy their numberical ratings as I think each person has his own ideas what the scale is suppose to mean, but if you read all the taster's opinion, it is obvious that everyone of them just loved this cigar. I had to call the editor of Smoke just to find this cigar, and I will say the effort was well worth it. Now, CI, you seem to have some kind of relationship with Smoke magazine, and the owner of El Original is friends with Smoke magazine, get my drift?, and this cigar does not have a major distributor, I think CI you should get this cigar in your hands and make a lot of noise about it.
Anyway, that was my last three days worth of cigars.

Hey, Aberdeen, the El Original is really that good? I found a 4-pack special for $14.95 at islandsmokeshop.com. (I hope it's okay to post this since cigarbid doesn't carry them yet!) Is that a good deal on these? Share with us more of your wisdom.

Chuckle, chuckle. Reading this post was like listening to Jack Handy on one of his many SNL skits. "And this cigar is good enough, smokey enough and dog on it, people like them!!"

My guess is, your thoughts on El Original are correct. There is more than a suspicousness to the relationship between SMOKE and El Original. Prior to reading that rating NO ONE in the cigar world has ever heard of the label, let alone this thing pulling off a 4.6 on the 5 scale. Look at the cigars it beat out! Give me a break. I see co-op advertising, and an obvious "hands on" deal behind this cigar. A perfect example as to why we should not trust the feedback from the "unbiased" panelists at SMOKE. Shady if you ask me.

to answer one question, Island Smoke shops is the manufactuter of El Original, so you are getting it straight from the source. I would definately buy the five pack. These are powerful cigars, not for the squeamish. When I first got the box and opened it I could tell I had something special, the cigars are extremely well made and the wrappers are first rate, and the draw is perfect, the flavor explosive. To the person above with his conspiracy theory, I would remind him that these cigar tasters for smoke would all have to be in on the conspiracy, and would have to know in advance that the cigar is an El Original. I do know that Smoke included El Original in their tastings as a favor to the maker since they are friends, that much is true, but I can confirm by my own tastings that the panelists were on the mark with their findings. And for the price, the cigars are a bargain.

Too ironic if you ask me. How many other cigars get a 4.6? In fact look up some of the best name cigars out there. This thing beat em all. I will give this stick it's fair chance and smoke a few. Oh, and don't think these panelists don't the cigars they are rating.
