Ah.... the network which according to wikipedia brought us:
A false bible ban in california
a Hogg conspiracy theory
false attacks on pedophile accusers
false election reports of pedophiles
Seth Rich conspiracy theories
and which the founder has ordered producers to promote certain types of content, such as pro-Trump stories and anti-Clinton stories.

Apparently one of their correspondents is literally a "dems run child porn in a pizza shop in dc" conspiracy theorist.....

That's.... not good macs.

Before laughing about that, you should stop and think of why they say to do that.

It's because you should use primary sources. Which are all linked in wikipedia. I'm not writing you a paper. I did a quick search of what OAN is. Their wikipedia page has a list of their questionable news activities, and has references as evidence.

If I were trying to get a grade from you, I would have written a paragraph about each of those, and specifically referenced the references already in wikipedia (or additional ones). Good thing I'm not trying to get a grade from you.

14. Author: victor809Date: Wed, 3/20/2019, 2:29PM EST
I mean.... instead of saying "LMAO" about wikipedia pointing out they have a "dems run child porn in a pizza shop in dc" conspiracy theorist as a correspondent.... you could have proven to me that he isn't a "dems run child porn in a pizza shop in dc" conspiracy theorist, or you could have proven to me that he wasn't an OAN correspondent.....

Of course... neither of the above is true. So you chose to complain that I found this true information on wikipedia. SMDH....
15. Author: dstiegerDate: Wed, 3/20/2019, 2:29PM EST
According to whom?

And, is that OAN's news reports or commentaries?

Reports of theories doesn't make the reporting agency 'not good'.

It is entirely possible that OAN's news reporting is sound.

Meh... a variety to be honest (and I do agree with you)...
One of the hosts running with the Hogg conspiracy theory isn't a huge deal. They're commentary level quacks.

But running false news stories, (california bible ban, claiming that Democratic congressional candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar's "father praised the deaths of the Israelis, saying they deserved to die.", false news reports of false crime statistics blaming islam....) that's not good for a "news" company.
18. Author: victor809Date: Wed, 3/20/2019, 2:41PM EST
Oh dear lord.... it's worse than I thought.

I'm reading about OAN and their Seth Rich crap (they are running stories promoting the idea that he was killed by the dems or some dumb crap like this) and I find that their representatives are on 4chan looking for people who "can help locating information regarding the doctor who treated Seth Rich" . 4chan. The conspiracy central.

Yeah... that's not a great channel to be watching.

Of course, on a more disturbing note, the OAN reporter is apparently the one called on the most by trumpenfurher.... so that's great.

I havent looked for the others. Looks like a bad news source to me. The title of the youtube video is literally: "This California State Assembly bill would BAN the Bible!".... and the headline in the story is "The first tipping point: California's war on Christianity"....

That's pretty much nonsense, and if that's what their news is like then I gotta say, they know their audience.

but you can keep watching, and I don't expect you to not dismiss my opinion. It's not like I wouldn't dismiss your opinion of stuff I read.

2 Timothy 3 King James Version (KJV)

3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

In their defense... Travis Allen is a CA state assemblyman... and he said, himself, at the 2:40 mark, "This bill, as it is written, would be banning the bible in California".

Maybe they took him at his word. I'd like to think they read it and confirmed what he said, and it was then changed... or didn't pass.

Much like wikipedia, I could cite a whole lot of things in the reference section of a paper (or posting) and hope you're a lazy teacher and don't go look it up and see if what I said was an accurate representation.

You're right, MACS. One could do that. However the upside to wikipedia is that it's crowd sourced, so anyone can change/update it. If a reference is incorrect, there's always a nerd to update it.

Doesn't mean people don't also add incorrect info. But feel free to cross check any of the claims they made and state that they're wrong.

Just because the method has the potential to fail or be abused, doesn't mean the information is incorrect. It means you need to give it a sniff test, see if it is logically sound, maybe spot check a couple references.

They did take him at his word. And his word was proven to be incorrect. That's fine. Happens to every news station. Odd that they would leave this up without a correction.

God I can't believe I clicked on that.
There's a reason I don't follow youtube links here. They're always to the most stupid "information".

That's not a news network macs.

But. since you made me watch the stupid, and didn't offer any of your own opinion, I'll assume you believe her hook line and sinker.

So I went to the bill.

First off. The Consumer Legal Remedies Act is a bill that is already in place. The amendment is adding these sex change services to it. Keep that in mind as we go through the stupid.

So she claims that since the bible is a "goods" it can be banned under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act because the act to amend the CLRA starts with the phrase "Existing law, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, makes unlawful certain unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices undertaken by any person in a transaction intended to result, or which results, in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer. Existing law authorizes any consumer who suffers damages as a result of these unlawful practices to bring an action against that person to recover damages, among other things."

That is dumb.

The CLRA covers a literal ton of stuff. Goods... services.. disparaging goods and services. etc. It is accurate to say that the CLRA covers goods and services. Her claiming that this act's preface is going to do anything is nonsense. It's like she doesn't even understand how amendments work. That phrase is NOT EVEN PART OF THE CHANGE TO THE CLRA.

Her second... "point"...
"This bill would include, as an unlawful practice prohibited under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual. "

She.... grabbed an old version. The new is below. Not much changed

"This bill would include, as an unlawful practice prohibited under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, advertising, offering for sale, or selling services constituting sexual orientation change efforts, as defined, to an individual. The bill would also declare the intent of the Legislature in this regard."

But the salient point is that AGAIN, this isn't the actual change to the CLRA. This is the Amendment to change the CLRA.... so this isn't the actual law itself post-amendment.

But, keep in mind. The first quote is not an actual modifier of the second quote. the fact that the first quote uses the term "goods and services" does not in any way mean that "goods" apply to the second quote. This is something she is unable to understand.

Her third quote is the only actual quote from the amended CLRA... the definitions section... where they did in fact add:
"“Sexual orientation change efforts” means any practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."

So... that's the definition of a sexual orientation change effort.. .yay.

So what's the ACTUAL change to the CLRA?

"Advertising, offering for sale, or selling services constituting sexual orientation change efforts to an individual."

That, she interestingly, did not quote. Know why? Because it's SERVICES based only. Her entire schtick about goods is irrelevant. The law change ONLY applies to SERVICES constituting sexual orientation change efforts.

If she's so worried about the CLRA banning bibles, she should look at existing line items:
"(2) Misrepresenting the source, sponsorship, approval, or certification of goods or services." Bible source is misrepresented

"(4) Using deceptive representations or designations of geographic origin in connection with goods or services." yeah... geogrphic origin....

"(8) Disparaging the goods, services, or business of another by false or misleading representation of fact." I'm pretty sure the bible disparages competing religions"

^ those lines actually apply to goods. And probably could be applied to the bible much more easily than a line about services.

You are watching bad "news" macs. Stop doing it.

Or at least stop trying to use it as evidence of anything.

The law, as it was written, could attempt to ban the bible. As you said, the constitution would not allow for it.

The way they covered it was certainly alarmist in its delivery, which gets clicks of course.

haven't read any of the stuff about banning the Bible, but the horse is outta the barn. Like guns (300 mm in circulation) there are probably more Bibles in circulation than people.

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Seems to me that the bible would be constitutionally protected under freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
