Anyone own a Volvo? Ram?
1. Author: Plowboy221Date: Wed, 7/3/2019, 1:11AM EST
I love my old yeee yeee Duramax but I’m getting tired of pissing away money on fuel, been looking at some cheap cars. Stumbled across a fully loaded 03 Volvo S60 2.4 with 135k, looks like I can pick it up for about 2500 bucks. Thinking around going and looking at this weekend.

I haven't owned either, but I worked on cars back about the time the horse and buggy was going away, and sold some for a couple years as well. I know that 135K on a diesel engine isn't terrible, that Volvos from that era tend to be pretty solid, and that Volvo owners tend to take pretty good care of their cars. That having been said, there are examples out there where someone beat the holy cow pie out of their Volvo and someone has a Pinto with a gajillion miles on it. With used cars, always best to take it to a good mechanic and pay for the once-over. You'd have to check to see if one is available for that model, but I know that for cars that have the connection and software for it, you can buy an ODB and use a smart phone to diagnose the engine and electrical, but it won't cover anything not run or monitored by computer, and the money spent on the mechanic will either stop you from buying a heap or make you feel smarter for knowing you got a good deal. Just make sure any mechanic you hire knows what they are doing with diesel.

This is actually a gas burner, and I just realized I think my cts2 insight monitor will hook to the car to check codes etc, just worries me a bit because seems so cheap......

My Lmm duramax is pushing 327k, been the best truck I’ve ever owned, only replaced brakes, ball joints, wheel bearings but nothing major knock on wood.

I got a 2000 Volvo V70. 189k and still running well. Simple maintenance is key with a Volvo. Take care of them and they will take care of you. 2500 does seem a little cheap.

a friend had the S60 probably around the time this one came out...loved it but traded due to electrical issues.

years ago I went through a few of the boxy 240's etc, one was a wagon, loved them all.
All gas burning, all were over 180,000 I moved on, one was over 240,000. May still be running!
Rolled like a big ol' sled.

Much different than today's luxury Volvo line.

We’re on Volvo #7. Had a 2006 S60, which was a great car until it was totaled after being hit. Simple maintenance, as listed above, is key. Had no electrical issues. Definitely worth a look.

Well someone bought the S60 before I had a chance to go look at it, looking at C70 turbo convertible now (is it possible I’m having a mid life crisis in that I actually really like the looks of the convertible lmao)

Can’t speak for Volvo, but we’ve had two 5 series BMWs in the immediate family. The power train itself is pretty much bullet proof. However, many accessories are cheaply made from plastic and are notorious for failing. I’ve heard from MB’s mechanics that they suffer the same fate. That being said, at that price, you’re either getting a great deal or you’re about to take a great ****.

dealer did tell her it was very unusual, but they never could fix it.
car shut off on the highway!
My experiences were all positive, but I drove much more primitive Volvos.

They are going all electric very soon, btw.

The big weakness I’ve noticed is that the interior plastics don’t seem to hold up well in the Southern heat. I do have a short somewhere in the sound system of my XC90, but just a nuisance that is fixed with a smack to the center console.

It's past time for you to advance from primitive to eVolvos

If you want another 300K vehicle look to Toyota.I personally have never owned one beyond 250K but not one single failure.Currently just over 100K on my 2011 Tacoma and under 10K on wifey's 2018 Highlander.

What you're saying is they all could've crapped out at 251K and you would have no idea.
So that claim of 251K to 300K is a complete gray area... Think

When I sold cars, I used to tell customers who were looking at impractical, expensive and/or fast cars that some people buy with their heads, some buy with their hearts, and others buy with an entirely different body part.

Hope you and your pen!s enjoy many happy years of motoring.

They should. It’s his most cherished passenger. And possibly the most abused

Very good cars.

Get decent mileage but not great mileage.
The air conditioners BLOW ICE, IF IT DOESNT? you have a problem.
Was it garage kept? Volvos like garages....if it wasn't...you have a problem.
How many owners?
Batteries are under the seats usually.
They are very heavy and the trunks are small.
The trunk water wells tracts always fill up with seeds, leaves and cheap, keep them open.

It doesn't sound to cheap....the idiots above never owned one, but I know several owners.
Volvos sell cheap compared to loser HONDA OWNERS WANTING MORE THAN THEY PAID NEW FOR THEIR OLD BEAT HIGH MILEAGE CRAP OR SUBARU DEEEKS WHO THINK THEY DESERVE GOLD BULLION FOR A PIEC OF CRAP WITH 300 k on it...Toyota owners are a combo of HONDA and SUBARU mentality also....**** used Toyota's.

P.S. your screwed now, the only used cars worse than SAAB ARE AUDIS AND BMW's...get ready to spend $1K every 6 months at least in repairs.
Mark my words.

I’m gonna have to be careful tho, at one point I was running well over 100 and didn’t even feel like I was moving..... I guess cause I’m not used to being in something so small and low to the ground. I do believe a radar detector will be in order hahaha

Well , you never mentioned all of those "extras" in the O.P.

HAVE FUN WITH YOUR BMW,
I HOPE IT TREATS YOU OK...

MY SAAB O6' 93S WAS FUN for about 8months...then it kept needing repairs...
Paid $3,750...
Put in about $2750 over 2.5 yrs

Now the POS NEEDS a new AC COMPRESSOR
+ NEW INTERIOR FAN MOTOR + 3 OTHER THINGS...
I PARKED IT FOR 5 + months to save insurance $ , now it says ABS BROKEN THEN BRAKE MALFUNCTION...
BE LUCKY TO GET $2K FOR IT...from some poor SAP...

GET READY TO FIX THAT BMW...
REAL S.O.O.N. FOR $750-1,000
