Diverticulitis....ANY SUGGESTIONS to feel better?
1. Author: Mr. JonesDate: Mon, 1/25/2021, 9:36PM EST
fog

I have had it twice before over the last 6-7 years...once it was very bad , the other was painful but not nearly like the first...
Yesterday,
I had apples on my Cheerios, 1/2 a pizza,
Hot dogs and sauerkraut...

Just read that apples are bad for diverticulitis and so is sauerkraut...
Plus, I was on ibuprofen for a pulled tooth which is finally doing better...it's been 9 days out now... I think that was masking the pain below...
Info said that ibuprofen is bad and to use Tylenol instead...I'm doing neither so I can tell if it is getting better or worse...have 6 more days of amoxicillin left from the dental procedure...

Any tips?

Water?
Yogurt / probiotics?
Soup?
Fiber?
Rest? For now?

couple of friends and I went to visit another friend in the hospital with diverticulitis.
On the white board in his room across from his bed, the names of his doctor and the nurse on that shift were written an dunder that in YUUUUGE red letters was written "NO NUTS!!!"

I turned to the other two guys and said..."we're too late".

He never forgave me for the pain I caused him from laughing so hard.

There are a number of things that will exacerbate and intensify the symptoms of diverticulitis.
Don’t do any of those.

And there are a number of things that will alleviate the condition.
Do all of those...

I think izon's assessment is correct.

I had diverticulitis in my 20s, never saw a Dr because I'm too cheap to pay for one, so I fixed it myself.

I cleaned out my guts with copious amounts of prune juice once a week for 3 or 4 weeks, then twice a month, then once a month for a few months, then every few months and so on until I felt it was pretty much cleared up.

In the mean time, stop eating pizza, or anything with bread. It's like putting gum in the gears of your cuckoo clock.

Eat lots of green leafy veggies and less meat. Don't have to go all out wacky vegan, but just cool it for a while. Also increase your nut consumption, almonds, walnuts, etc. Peanuts aren't nuts and can gum you up too.

No sugar like sodapop, Lemon water only! Especially with meals, it helps aid digestion. Diverticulitis is inflammation and can be fixed with proper diet. Bread, cakes, pasta, sugary stuff.. Shame on you

Final tip, Get yourself a juicer or blend up smoothies at least once daily.

Had the prob for about 2 years and haven't had a prob since as long as I watch mass quantities of certain digestibles.

I got more if you want to hear it... Until then, good luck!

Amoxicillin tears your guts into tiny little pieces. Also destroys the good gut bugs, a.k.a. microbiome (say that 3 times fast, azzhats) so you need to replace them.
Yoghurt helps. My wife takes acidophilus and swears by it.
Good luck. Feel better.

Castration is the recommended treatment? He needs a better health plan.

so the "NO NUTS" thing was about 20 years ago, but if I recall correctly it meant the opposite of your low cost medical advice. It meant...no nuts.

and he was told especially NO SEEDS. And strawberries with them little bastid exterior seeds, stuff like that. Never was told to avoid spicy food or cheese and breads though.

Could be wrong but I think he was told the pain and inflammation were caused by small things (like seeds) getting into little "pockets" as they passed through. Some people have bigger or smaller pockets and the dangerous stuff passes through 98.2% of the time, but when it doesn't...YIKES!

Turns out my friend had a one-time occurrence and is back to gobbling nuts and seeds daily.

Maybe I'll snopes this...?
27. Author: frankj1Date: Tue, 1/26/2021, 1:06PM EST
Cheap medical advice is better than having your nuts removed!
Do you take medicare?

Mayo Clinic:

Eat more fiber. A high-fiber diet decreases the risk of diverticulitis. Fiber-rich foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains, soften waste material and help it pass more quickly through your colon. Eating seeds and nuts isn't associated with developing diverticulitis.

for immediate pain relief, try a heat pad on your lower abdomen...as warm as you can stand...plus some Tylenol/acetaminophen

I didn't say no nuts, I said no peanuts cause it turns to peanut butter in your belly...

I been through this, it's most likely caused by foods he may have grown an intolerance to... eg: gluten, wheat, ... wheat gluten.. and stuff which is causing inflammation...

I'm not a Doctor, but I used to play one in the back of my van when I was a teenager. I know what I'm talking about!

My experience was a 4 day hospital stay after removing a foot of my intestine. Before that I assume the doctor thought I had a crush on him due to the frequency of pain resulting in a finger(or two) in the bum, and pain meds.
