17 is bigger and easier to shoot if you don't plan on carrying it.

Otherwise, good choice, never heard a bad thing about the 19.

I recommend trying as many models as you're able. Then you can determine what feels/shoots best for you. I started the process certain I wanted a Beretta, and ended it as another CZ fanboy

I have a G19... not sure what Gen, but it's at least 10 years old. I also have a Glock 43 and a Beretta M9.

The 19 is a compact, but it's still too damn bulky and heavy for CC, IMO. Which is why I got the 43.

The Beretta M9 is my favorite, hands down, but that's likely because I carried it for years in the Navy and shot, quite literally, thousands and thousands of rounds through it. So if it comes down to an "oh, sh*t" moment... muscle memory will take over and I'll be fine.

My buddy Mike is the SW regional sales rep for Sig Sauer. If I was going to buy another gun it would probably be the Sig P226 MK25.

Dagger is great for the price but the trigger sucks donkey balls.

MACS should say “GEN __” on the side of the slide. You can also tell by the trigger shoe, mag release and guide spring.

While I do love my Brownings my carry is a Glock 26,it practically eats,sleeps and schits with me.I can see myself with a 43 in the very near future.IMHO ya just can't go wrong with a Glock regardless of model.

The Dagger looks like I need to look into a little more. I also like the idea of going to the local rental range and trying some of them out.

You will need to decide if you want a concealed carry or home/range gun before you make a final choice. I have a Taurus G2C for cc. Inherited my FIL's FN Browning 9mm Hi Power that I keep for home and range use. He was a weapons design engineer for the Army and did not care for the 1911's low capacity. Got himself qualified to carry the Browning as his side arm. Both guns hold 14 rounds. For the price, the G2C is hard to beat. Picked one up a few years back for $200 on sale.

I'm seriously thinking of putting together another PVC potato gun. I had a couple of them a handful of years back but I think I left them at my friend's camp in Maine. They could easily could launch a potato about 100 yds. Blasted a 5 inch hole in the side of the outhouse when my friend was on the $hitter. 1/2" weathered chipboard was no match for a potato gun at close range.

Tater gun wouldn't fit your purposes either but it would probably leave a nice welt or goose egg on the intruder's forehead. However, you'd have to convince them to hold off for a minute or so while you rammed a tater down the barrel and charged the combustion chamber.

My wife's carry gun is a Glock 43, she tried when the local women's gun group had a pro do some training. He did not like her grip on a Ruger so he had her try his 43, she shot out the X in a silhouette target, came home, and had me order her one.

Funny thing, I sucked with the 43, but have a 43, in .380, and I can shoot it very well. If I can carry a bigger pistol, it's a Steyer 9mm M9, but most of the time I wear shorts and have a Keltec P32 in my pocket. I count on minding my own business and the fact that most people don't want to get shot with anything. If I thought I was in serious danger, I could not avoid, I'd have a rifle.

I am going to mention the Ruger Security 9. I am a senior and this gun really fit my hand well. It is a comfortable weight with a crisp light trigger. It is very accurate, and I like it much more than my G19 G3. This is my home defense gun, and I am very pleased with it.
