Jim curious what your exposure to Mencken is and if you remember him because you’re really smart or if you remember him because you read something recently? The reason I ask is because when I retired I went to city college and then to Uni for a couple years and I always reached for Mencken for back up on my essays. It’s been awhile though lol.

Mencken Civil War

"The Gettysburg speech was at once the shortest and the most famous oration in American history...the highest emotion reduced to a few poetical phrases. Lincoln himself never even remotely approached it. It is genuinely stupendous. But let us not forget that it is poetry, not logic; beauty, not sense. Think of the argument in it. Put it into the cold words of everyday. The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination -- that government of the people, by the people, for the people, should not perish from the earth. It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in the battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves."

Kamala in place for Biden? Oh my. It's unbelievable... almost nightmarish of where the US has fallen.

I'm not a Trump thumper but my God, this is the best the the other side of the aisle can lash together? Media spins it as Biden stepping down is him being a real patriot for the sake of the country. What a bunch of BS. They are spinning it as a positive thing? It's sad.

For the sake of the country, Biden should have stepped aside a LONG time ago so some sort of valid candidate could run. Yet another embarrassment for the United States.

A lot of stories being floated that he is not well and his time is quite limited. For as bad as he’s been at times I wonder how he’s supposedly gotten so gravely sick just days after his last public appearance.

Biden has been in bad shape for quite some time. The White House, the media, and Kamala Harris have been in on the cover-up and coup.

No doubt, but he is now supposedly at the end stage of a terminal illness and won’t make it to the end of his current term.

And now he gets a free prime time infomercial to campaign for Kamala and talk about saving democracy while the puppeteers installed a candidate that never won a primary.

They should have lowered the teleprompter so it looked like he was actually speaking to the camera and the people rather than gazing off into the distance.

All politics aside, I feel sad for his family as they watch him slip away into some dream land. I truly believe he has some serious elderly brain issues and, in my opinion, it's clear that he's slipping away mentally.
