Finally feeling up to another cigar. Hitting up Number 2

Pre light notes 6inch aprox 55 RG, large double cap, supple, oily small tooth on the wrapper, maduro is my initial thought. slight peper on the nose

First light impressions on this Donky Deek of a cigar... slight peper right away, white pepper not black or or spicy. Def a Maduro. Rich flavor, dark choc almost and a hint of nuttyness.
Single cut with a perfect cutter was enough for an easy draw but might need to take another snip as it goes. we wil see.

First third, creamy, cocoa, full flavored, full body, perfect burn, just a hint of nic strength . peper sticks around but mellows a bit with some creamyness. Nuttyness for sure, like unsalted cashew. retro is smooth with no burn, Not an AJ, Fuente. not a DE... boutique maybe? Not Nigaraguan.

Perfect burn into the halfway point, 1+ inch chunks of ash with no issue, Still plenty of white pepper, little black ffee and nuttyness remains. Picked up a bit of caremel.

Very complex flavors and the retro is still very smooth, can hold the smoke in your moth for a long time with no issue. Nic is noticable for sure but not bad.

I am putting it out now that this is the premium. if it isnt then it deserves to be. i would pay $20-25 for this all day.

towards the end of the 2nd third it picked up a bit of clhorine and cut grass on the retro.only for a few puffs but is odd. not heavy like a pool but like after the neigbor opens the pool cover for the day and you are in the yard next door. everything else remains the same, still very plesent and would happily smoke again.

Final third, pepper has mellowed, coffee and nuttyness/cashew are more prevelent, lille wood like oak comeing in, little raisin sneeking in.

Final thoughts. this is premium. if it wasnt for the size i would stock these in the humi all the time. full flavor and yet mellow at the same time. would be great with a creamy coffee, or an oldfashined with some walnut bitters. 90 minute smoke, never had to relight, never had to touch it up. it just smoked like a champ.

will try to get the third cigar done on Monday.

drgInc, excellent tasting notes. You know how to convey a lot of information with economy of words.

Excellent review Charles, glad you liked it. Very weird at the end of that second third. Been trying to figure out what I wanted tonight. I think you chose for me. šŸ˜†

Cigar #1 paired with ā€œHe Who Slumbersā€ whiskey barrel aged Junmai sake

Either a maduro or a CL broadleaf, I can never tell. Seems to be a in toro size and (as my wife said earlier) smells fantastic. Very molasses forward and sweet on prelight. If I didn’t know better, id say it’s artificially sweetened, but I know those are out of the equation.

1st third: heavy silky smoke. Predominant flavors are molasses, baking spice, tobacco sweetness, dark cocoa, a hint of some unspecified wood, and cream. The retro is even sweeter somehow with a bit of pepper. What a stellar combo. Honestly, I could care less whether this transitions to something else, the flavor combo really vibing well. Also, for some reason the smoke smells cedar forward. Reminds me of my grandpa who would smoke aromatic pipe tobacco. Towards the end of the first third, the sweetness and dying down and the nuttiness and woodiness is beginning to pick up.

2nd third: Woodiness, cream, and nuttiness are the main flavors here. I wish there was a little sweetness to balance the wood, but still great. Smoke still smells fantastic. It’s looking like it’s starting to canoe a little bit, but I am curious to see whether it fixes itself.

It didn’t, but I fixed it before it got out of control

3rd third: spice is picking up a little, but not overwhelmingly so. Other forward flavors include cocoa and cedar. Nicotine hit is also ramping up a bit. Luckily my wife came home with a donut. Life is good.

I’m gonna pin this as the premium. Interesting transitions and a truly decadent start. If it’s a premium, definitely deserves a fiver. If it’s a yard gar, definitely deserves a box.

My apologies to Charles aka drginc. The box arrived early this week and I have just now had the time to get into it.

He has included a few treats with the cigars.

A bag of Tillamook beef jerky. I love the stuff

Three small candies....

A Takis lollipop - No idea what to expect with this. If you've ever had Takis, you know they don't exist in the natural world 😰

Skwinkles - Spaghetti shaped water melon licorice candy
Edit:Now I ate the Skwinkles. Mexican candy. Spaghetti shaped licorice comes with a little pouch (like a mustard or ketchup sized packet) of tamarind sauce. This is strange, but tasty in an interesting way.

A different small piece of tamarind candy. Kind of like taffy or a fruit paste candy. I've just eaten this. If I had a bag of this, I think I would just keep eating it. Sour, sweet and hot all together. Different. Quite tasty.

A package of Bergers cookies (bergercookies.com). Immediately consumed one. Not for the faint of heart, these are decidedly decadent.

That's a great collection of snacks Charles.

Cigars. Three unbanded, of course.
1. about a 6" x 48,52 (maybe a soft box press) firm and well built parejo Colorado Maduro in color
2. about 5-7/8 x 54-56 firm and well built parejo a shade lighter than #1
3. about 6-3/4 x 50 firm and well built pyramid a shade darker than #1 I'll call it maduro

I will say that each of these cigars are firm and appear well rolled. A budget cigar in the mix won't be divulged on appearances.

A few riders tagged along

A Fuente cubanito
Sea Knight Churchill (Davidus cigars exclusive)
The Wiseman maduro toro
Padron 4000 nat
Padron 2k (well aged)
Lord Baltimore robusto
LP Papas ftritas unico

Terrific selection of ride alongs Charles! Thank you for the generous offerings.

Looking forward to the blinds. At least one this weekend, perhaps two.

And SOB I looked at tracking on what I sent you. WTF, headed to Aurora Colorado? I thought maybe I mistyped a number or something, but I double checked. Hopefully they'll figure out where Indiana is located.

Well Dan, looks like the package got the message, "Go, Go , Get out of Denver baby"
We'll see if it's headed in the right direction soon enough.
Maybe it will make it to Indiana on time after all.

Cigar #3 paired with ā€œHe Who Slumbersā€ whiskey barrel aged Junmai sake

Churchill habano or Sumatra (someday I’ll be able to tell wrapper differences)

Prelight: whiskey-esque aroma with hints of cocoa and wood

1st third: on light, I’m getting notes of dry wood and black pepper. There’s a certain bitter note I’m hoping will go away as I get deeper into the first third. Deeper into the first third, the bitterness does indeed die down. Now it’s just wood and black pepper with more wood on the retro.

2nd third: wood and wheat with a hint of pepper, nothing else to report

3rd third: wood and wheat, the pepper is gone, nothing else to report.

This cigar had fine construction, but mediocre flavors and barely transitioned. I’m comfortable calling this the yardgar.

So my final rankings are:

#1 - premium
#2 - mid
#3 - yard gar

I hope I’m wrong, because if #1 is the mid or the yard gar, I plan to buy either a fiver or a box in the coming weeks.

Once again, thanks for this experience DED, and thanks to Dan for putting this together. I enjoy this event every year.

Let me know how I did, DED!

I knew that the mid felt kinda Cuban-y!

I’m gonna have to pick up more Sartos. That was absolutely stellar. If it goes on sale, I might buy myself a box.

Also, I’m gonna keep drinking sake with my reviews. I’m on a 2 year streak right now, so it must be doing something right!

In other news, my wife is gloating that she picked out the premium from smell alone.
