Gent,
You mention afixing the bins to a "hardwood"... If this is a typical hardwood it may actually do more harm that good, as it will draw in moisture and make it difficult to keep the interior's moisture levels static. Just a thought. I would use cedar or just clean plastic throughout.

Those coolers use one small plastic container, approximately 1" x 2" x 2" filled with beads. Humidity stays right around 65%. In the summer, I usually have to take the beads out, or the humidity climbs up to mid 70s.

dpnewell, how many bins/trays are you using per cooler (9 or 12)? Also, where did you get the bins/trays from?

The two coolers pictured use 12 trays each. Trays can be found in Walmart homes good section. Been a while, but they where 2 for a buck. May be able to find some at dollar stores.

They don't look like that right now. After months and months of stuffing new shipments where ever they'll fit, they need a complete emptying, and reorginzation. Going through the coolers last week to find sticks for this short trip, and I was running across all kinds of good stuff, hidden under other stuff, that I didn't even remember buying.

I have the same coolers but I have a wood shop 5 miles away I got some Spanish cedar from.. I lined the whole bottom and made Dividers with it. It holds rh pretty good, I keep boxes in mine but space is tight now days might be time for cooler #2.

I just have a 120qt with cigar box tetris going on inside. I love to open it up and try to figure out what is going on. It's always a surprise.

David, been meaning to ask two questions since you first posted this...

did you like any of the Jukes (are they still in biz?)
and does it matter which side of the cigar box sections faces the inside?

My cooler looks like crap compared to this one... LOL!

I got a 190 court (I think) cooler and it fits around 450-550 sticks or so but if I used this method I could probably fit more thanks for the ideas...

Way too over the top for me.

My method:

1) Buy Rubbermaid brand cooler (hard refrigerator plastic lined, little to no odor from the start)

2) Wash it out & dry it.

3) Dump cigars boxes in. Place loose cigars in older boxes.

4) Add one 4oz jar of humi-care gel

5) close lid and go open a beer.

Yup, I'm with you both on this one. And for rotation of stock I'll just take a tater fork to 'em ever so often to bring the bottom to the top.🌫

Frank,

1) Jukes where from Avalon Cigar, a Blues theme company in Mississippi. I really don't think they're around anymore. The Jukes where a medium cigar aged using green pecan wood along with cedar. The first few I smoked really had a pecan note to them. The last few where just heavy, dry wood, which I didn't like one bit.

2) If the lids are solid spanish cedar, it shouldn't matter which side faces which way.

I would think you'd want the side that wasn't lacquered, up. That way you can wipe the wood down with distilled water and it will absorb it and help maintain a steady humidity. That's the whole point of adding the wood in the first place right? Shrug, anyway it looks cool like that. You seem to be low though....
