Thought it might be time to post this again. Since its time to buy again and I lost the original email from Ultrapet.

I’ve had two 150 Quart Marine Cooler coolerdors in my basement for over two years. I have less problems with them than with my three other large humidors. You don’t need to line them just store your cigars in old wooden cigar boxes.

You can keep your beads in a cigar box you cut with vents covered with nylon screen, or just do like I do and either fill with beads an old, but clean, sock or the foot of some pantyhose and tie it off.

When your RH gets low toss a damp sock into the coolerdor until the RH gets back up around 70%. Don’t spray water directly on your beads or they may fracture leaving lots of dust around your cigars.

To start, or charge, your coolerdor, place empty cigar boxes, your beads and a clean damp rag (a couple of athletic socks works well too) into the coolerdor and close it up for a few days, or until the RH stabilizes between 65% and 70%. Then fill with cigars. Very simple and cheap. Place Coolerdor someplace where the temp stays fairly constant (between 50-70 degrees) and the humidity is constant too. I have a dehumidifier for my basement anyway, so I set it at 65%. It works well for me.

For those of you who have enjoyed the cheap Kitty Litter beads for humidifying your humidors and coolerdors, Exquisicat Pearl Fresh is no longer being produced, but the manufactor has told me that they are still producing the following brands that are the same as Exquisicat Pearl Fresh:

BTW, they changed the shape of the beads so they don’t bounce and roll away so easily.

I find that KL maintains RH at exactly the same levels as 65% cigar beads. JMHO

I've honestly never understood why these kitty-litter vs other beads arguments always turn nasty.

I have never had luck using kitty litter, but know many who swear by it

Personally, I specifically tell my cats NOT to piss in my tupperdors ... but that's just me.

Greenwolf thanks for info. i have large humi.,useing oasis xl, in winter with heat on must add water twice weekly, i am thinking of using coolerdor you just help reinforce idea

Have you noticed that you HF beads will sometimes turn brown? That's because the are doing the same job as the kitty litter.

Chemically, the HF beads and KL beads are the same.

Maybe I should start a business repackaging KL beads to sell as Cigar beads. Buying at $1.60 a pound (maybe less in bulk) and reselling at $25 a pound (to undercut the competition a little), I think there might be a substantial profit margin in there. Since so many of you seem to be in denial, there should be sucker, er customer base to justify the effort.

And you've actually done the lab tests of the materials to verify this claim?

Please provide copies of your lab analysis of the chemical breakdown of the two products. Include peer review reports.

This issue is polarizing people across the web. Many people claim they work just fine, and many people are not beleivers.

I have two identical desktop humidors currently empty. I can obtain some of the Cat stuff. I will do the test, and I will report back.

The 65% beads worked great for me in the summer, but not in winter. The standard humidifier cartridge
worked great in winter, but not summer.

RE #37, Thanks Bryan, I was just busting.....I actually DID order some more today, though!

I don't know what to tell you, man. I have no problem with KL beads on principle, all joke aside. But for me they just didn't work well, especially during the summer (humidity just kept going up). Since switching to HF I've not had a problem.

But I say if you use the cheap ones and they work great for you, SCORE! If not, go for the good stuff (worth it, imvho).

Its amazing what a name change will do. Its how Congress works...when a bill is getting a lot of opposition, just change the name...people will attribute magical powers to the same stuff. Truly amazing....its why there is so much money in advertising.
