Reports are saying that the flu is rapidly spreading because the shot they are giving this year is the wrong strain than what is going around, so I wouldn't bother.

It's all a damn guessing game. There are different strains, so how the hell do they know which strain to give each year? They don't... they just guess.

Lets see if I can remember the basics. They monitor the world wide spread of flu starting in china. They know usually how fast each strain spreads and usually formulate the shot to cover each of several predicted strains of flu. I guess they missed one this year.

Got mine but up here a couple weeks ago they were bragging that "they" got the formula just right.

Mmmm really?

Lots of flu everywhere. Funny how they spin it.

Used to work at a hospital and every time I got the shot I got sick. Haven't had the shot for years. My wife too is a nurse and was required to get it. She is tested daily as part of SOP to work with patients that day. Haven't had the flu in years... knock on wood. Couple of bugs but nothing as serious as the current flu. Shot takes approx 2 weeks to take full effect from what I understand.

Here's a good argument for getting the shot.

They are bragging about that on the news here as well. I don't buy it, it's not working.

Forget the shot and eat right/exercise instead. Since I began to focus on healthy eating, etc I have gotten sick.......but the duration and severity has been minimal. Maybe a 1-2 day cycle instead of a typical 5-6 day flu.

I suspect that flu shots may be poisonous.

I rarely get ill either,,,

But,
This Flu appears very serious,,,,

And, I do I agree, anything we ingest have a negative effect,
But , maybe this time the benefits outweigh the negatives,,

I too always got sock when I took the shot (4 years in a row) got the flu this year for the first time since then (9 years?).

I don't like vaccines and my daughter gets a minimal ammount and even those cannot have certain ingredients. Her pediatrician is good about it.

Ooops! Go figure that it isn't 100% accurate every single time. Why would have thought that could happen? There are different strains of the flu and like any virus, they can mutate as it is passed from person to person. Getting a flu shot may protect one. Not getting on definitely won't protect you. Why don't people simply follow their individual doctor's advice? Last time I checked, he/she is the doctor, right?

Wrong strain... big surprise. Had the flu when my son was in PK and was miserable, but nothing permanent. Not much fun taking care of a little one under those circumstances, but we watched a looootttt of cartoons and survived it with no permanent emotional scars. First year working at the school I went ahead and got the shot because I figured I was working in a germ factory and didn't want to be out for a week. A month later I was down with the flu, and sicker than I had EVER been in my life. I didn't feel that horrible the first time - and the first time I spiked a 106* fever and couldn't remember driving home from the Dr. Was SO much worse the second time. Wash your hands like you've got OCD, take your vitamins and stay healthy - it'll do you better than that damn shot. Interesting to note - one of our school dads is a GP and is ADAMANTLY against both the flu shot and the chicken pox shot. In fact, his wife was telling us the other day how he went through the ROOF when he found out she wasn't keeping a close enough eye on the nurse when his boys went in to their pediatrician and they got 1 round of the varicella shot and says he goes on a rant every time he sees a "get your flu shot here" sign lol. From what I've seen, all but one of the kids of Drs. at our school forgo flu, chicken pox and in-school fluoride (pretty high level of naturally occurring fluoride in our water anyway.) Kinda makes you think...
