July 25th – With a couple of vague sketches in hand, I set out to build a stand for the humidor case.

I wanted a darker wood to highlight the walnut, but the Nogal (South American Walnut) I planned to use, turned a red brown after the finish test, and just didn’t look good next to the walnut. I still had some walnut scraps that were milky white with sapwood, so I decided to run a few tests ebonizing it – it worked. So the stand is going to be black (I hope).

The stand is roughed in, so next comes shaping the legs and sanding out the rough edges. The joints fit nice and tight, so I’ll barely need clamps for the glue up. I plan on driving a few dowels though the joints to lock the tennons in place.

If the finishing process works like I think it will, the stand should be coal black, like Gaboon Ebony when I’m done.

Brew - I'm a fellow woodworker but amateur at best. I've got a couple of questions for ya for humi's. Hit me up danskarr @ gmail . com.

nice! It is coming together well. I like the layout of the stand -- not only are you a skilled woodworker, but you have good vision of what you want.

did you finish milling the SC? Doesn't look like the humi is lined yet?

Thx to all –

The stand is not in its’ final shape. The legs have some shaping to do and the boards that attach to the casing will be cut down to be less visible, hiding the support under the case. At a glance, the box will appear to float.

Jojoc, the cedar is milled, but not fitted. This past weekend I lacquered the casing inside and out, and hung the door. The finish needs a few days to cure, and then I can fit the lining. Likely I will finish the legs first as I need to match drill the mountings to the case – which can only be done after the legs are glued up.

I am really looking forward to fitting the lining – it should go quickly, but I want to make sure I get a good seal. I’ll be putting a couple of theories and ideas to the test . . .

Again, thank you all for the kind words.

when you do the lining, do some close-ups to the door fitting. I am sure there are several who would like to see what you end up doing for the seal.

the floating affect is really cool!
