I've been a member here for the last month and this is my first post. I've really enjoyed learning from you all. I still have quite a few questions and I'd appreciate any help. Living in Jersey(I've heard all the jokes) smoking outside is not my idea of pleasure during the winter but when I smoke indoors, the stale cigar odors can get overwelming. Any suggestions on how to get rid of that stale smell?

Also wanted some opinions on a few supre premium cigars I've noticed. The Padron Millenium and the CAO Millenium. I love the PAMs and PANs. Any opinions?

Finally, and sorry for the long post, does anyone have any experience with importing the forbidden fruit or know of any web dealers that can be trusted? Any info would be greatly appreciated. My email is HarleyDave(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Welcome HarleyDave!

As for the inside stale smoke, there are products like Smoker Cloaker or something like that and Sharper Image sells an awesome ionized system. I have two of the latter because of household allergies and they are better than any Hepa system we used (and thrown out after a few years and spending $$$ on filters) and the latter doesn't have filters, just rods you wipe off.

As for ISOMs, many people have been successful getting these and I've been lucky enough to be the recipient of many generous traders for these. I'll send you several links I have that others have used.

welcome dave,
I usually put a fan in the window when I smoke in the house. I find that this clears out most of the smoke. But it's pretty much dependant on which way the wind is blowing. Days where the wind is blowing away from the window or there's a cross wind that sucks the air out of the room are much better for smoking. I also put a couple of drier sheets on the back of the fan when I'm done. It sound kinda wierd but in about ten minutes the whole room will be smelling like laundry. Masks the smoke smell pretty well. Also might want to try some scented candles.

Let's see:

I live in Southern California, so smoking outside is not a problem for me............It is a must or just the way it is done in my (ha ha) household.

Any C.A.O. is worth smoking, whoops, forgot about the flavored sticks (no I will not try them) cannot believe they did that....but all other CAO's are the best!

Smoke Oliva O Maduro for a real treat.

Forgot rest of questions, so welcome aboard.

New Jersey, you must be very proud. It's the Garden State, right? And aptly named... When I'm driving up the Eastern seaboard, up 95. And I see that sign that says, "Welcome to New Jersey, The Garden State". I throw down the window, and hang my head out like a dog and just breath in that sweet garden air! Smells JUST like a flower garden.

I'm Proud...

Jersey ain't that bad... Has a lot to offer:

Beaches : 1 hr. drive from me
New York City : 20 min ride
Atlantic City : 2 hr drive
Mountains : 1 hr drive (camping, fishing, skiing, etc.)
C-bid/CI : 1-1/2 hr drive :o)

It may not smell the best at places, but you gotta take the good with the bad...

Low

PS... We can still smoke in bars here...

Dave,

To get that stale smell... get extra strength FeBreeze.
It works wonders. Now for carpeting, get the scented or nonscented Carpet Baking soda. Its the one you vacuum up after an hour or so in the carpet.

I live in Santa Cruz, CA but I spent a month with my uncle in Seagirt NJ when I was 16. This area is beautiful. I landed my first Barback job at the Brielle (sp) Yacht Club just S. of Seagirt in Brielle. The place had 2 levels and 5 bars, very cool.

E-Chick... It is my dream when my kids are grown to move to the N. SD Co. coast. I love it there. It's nice here but the water is just too damn cold.

Is that a George Castanza ref. robby? Yeah the ocean temps on the surface of the Monterey Bay averages 55. It's all about the upwelling from the ultra deep Monterey submarine canyon. Surfing these conditions led local hero Jack Oneill to invent the wet suit. Freekin' cold!

Truthfully....from one who spent his life before marriage smoking in the house. You can mask but you can't hide.

A non smoker will pick up the smoke odor in a second. It gets into the walls, the paint, the material in the carper and furniture.

Funny, I though I did a great job at eliminating smoke from my bachelor pad until I moved with my wife and we combined out furniture. I quit smoking all togther for a year. And I could still get stale smoke smell from the couch and cushions.

Smokers, even occasional smokers are desensitized (sp?) to the smell , to some degree or another.

I smoke outside...and actually prefer it. I have grown to dislike the scent of stale smoke on me, the furniture or anywhere. IF I can't smoke outside when I am at home...then I don't smoke.

E-Chick..... Encinitas, eh? I was there in October and stayed at the Country Inn over by Rt5. Our 1st California meal was in Encinitas down ther on the main drag(101?). Butternut squash tamales while a flute and guitar duo played Black Sabbath, The Carpenters, and Vivaldi.

THL, Sounds like you went to Ki's overlooking the ocean in Cardiff or Amici in Encinitas. All of these little beach towns run together here...

I know the inn...pass by it occassionally but have never stayed there. Was it nice? Some place that you'd recommend to others? Or fughetaboutit?

Encinitas doesn't have many hotels...just a few motels, inns and B&B's...

I hope the weather was pleasant then...LMK if you come back, will you?

SORRY for the additional thread jack!

E-Chick...the restaurant was definitely in Encinitas. There are 4 or 5 of them side by side with a nice Italian place on the corner; right by the intersection where the big electric "Encinitas" sign is. The Country Inn is a chain hotel. It's ok, but nothing special. The weather was great and we did all the usual tourist stuff, Old Town, Sea World; etc. It seemed a wonderful place to live as long as you can avoid I-5 at rush hours.
