Have been tempted to buy a couple, because of the low humidity climate I live in. Question? Why could I not just stick a humidification unit to the lid of a used glass jar and save myself a few bucks on duty and currencey conversion. Anyone try this?

Basically ... if you think about it, that's all a cigar jar is. The concept is the same, it's just a little fancier ...

In the past, I used the plastic jars 'peanuts' and 'chocolate almond clusters' (from the big box stores, like Costco) came in, and they worked fine.

You can use that, or any other plastic or glass container that is air tight or semi-air tight.

The only problem I've had with the cigar jars is that they are air tight and I have to let my cigars breath every so often or they can get musty.

I've seen people use sweater boxes, tupperware, etc...

anyone out there have a solution to the musty smell from a tupador or jar humidor. Does any one else find their cedar box just takes to much maintenance. I'm adding water to mine every 3rd day and wiping it down every 2 weeks; it seams to have a good seal.

Slimboli (damn this site is slow tonight)

i don't like nuts, but you are correct. a cigar jar is a $3.00 closed lid jar that sells for $15.00. i may try, no i will try a large plastic jar that comes with those little jelly filled chocolats, called jelly rings. pefect for my bad frogs. i can shove the bad from through the jelly ring and add to the taste, or maybe a marshmallow.

Try adding some spanish cedar to your tupidor. Make a coolidor so you can keep your singles in boxes. You can add some pieces of SC and that will help as well.

Regardless, you will need to let them breath every so often to get some fresh air in there.
