HANGOVER PREVENTION -

Before calling it a night and going to bed do the following:

- Drink a full 12oz glass of water
- Take 2 aspirin + 2 tylenol
- Shake well and drink a can of SLIM-FAST
- Place another of all the above on the nightstand beside your bed as you'll get up at least once (hopefully) in the night to go pee-pee

Then - repeat the above and/or do it as soon as you wakeup to start the day .....

That's how "some" of old-bucks compete with the young-bucks out on a night of liberty .... they'll be thinking - "how on earth does that old fart do it" ....

The water, aspirin, tylenol and self explanatory -

- the SLIM-FAST (ULTRA) has all the vitamins/minerals that your body loses after consuming large quantities of alcohol - and your 'hangover' is really just a sign of dehydration.

Jimmy --- The root cause of all hangovers is, of course, drinking alcohol.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Other classic remedies include sports drinks like Gatorade and sugary food and drink. Tomatoes figure prominently in hangover cures, from Virgin Bloody Marys to V8 to Italian food.

If you drink enough and end up with a hangover, besides lack of water in your suystem, it means you've ingested more alcohol than your body can metabolize efficiently. The toxins in alcohol build up in your body and make you feel sick. A chief culprit is a chemical called acetaldehyde. This is an alcohol by-product that research suggests may cause the worst of your hangover symptoms.

Load up on B-12 and other B vitamins ...

Many sources advise against taking acetaminophen (a.k.a. Tylenol) because it could damage your liver if mixed with alcohol. Ibuprofen painkillers are considered a better choice.

Congeners are another cause of hangovers. These are impurities created during the fermentation process in some types of alcohol. Low quality wines and many dark liquors tend to have high levels of congeners. The rule of thumb is the darker your drink, the worse the hangover.

Ladies & Gentlemen -

The above spoken from far vast experience than I apparently ...

- however, I'd advise against the ibuprofen with use of alcohol as it increases the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding.

- and if you're worried about your liver ... you shouldn't be drinking alcohol to begin with ... LOL

Wish I had a fever remedy yesterday...

Took my daughter to the ER on Sunday...very sick, cough, muscle aches, headache, 101+ temp...OMG, Mike and I panicked and thought it could be SARS...she had just returned from Europe...

Turns out to be acute pharyngitis, bronchitis, and tonsilitis...poor kid...

Well, yesterday, her fever shot up to 102.9 according to my digital thermometer. I put her into a tepid bath (75-80 degrees) and gave her 2 more Advil. I had given her 2 an hour and a half earlier when her temp was again 99.8...ugh!

After 30 mins in the tub, her temp went down to 101.8 and in another 1 1/2 hours it was down to 99.2

Was there ANYTHING else that may have sped the process along? I was told NOT to use rubbing alcohol to reduce the fever.

Marla, cold compresses to the back of the neck, wrists and under the arms would also help a lot. The blood is closest to the surface in these areas and by applying a cold compress to these areas you can cool the blood a bit, there by cooling the entire body.

Gatorade is a great item as well. Cool liquid internally will help cool the body along with preventing dehydration which can accompany a fever.

Slim, where did you learn the B12 trick and no Acetominaphin trick? I picked those up from Organic Chemistry, but not many people know them.

The best hangover cure of all, when the Jimmy and Slim cures (minus Tylenol) haven't done the trick, is a glass of beer! Take my word for it, but I'll explain if I must.
