Any wrestlers out there? I wrestled. Great sport. I liked it because it's mano a mano (please, not a softball). It was combat one on one. No bad pass, no bad catch. It was you and someone else. Like boxing, but they didn't have that, or I would have done it.

Always wanted to play football, but I wasn't big. I know small guys play foot and basketball quite well too.

I played Soccer in High School in Alabama when George Wallace and Bear Bryant ran the world. We weren't allowed to bring a soccer ball on school grounds so we formed a club and played colleges, private schools and Military teams on the Redstone Arsenal. After we won the South East Conference, they wanted us to play as a school team. Funny how that works.

I played football. Showed flashes of good potential. But I was a slacker back then. Had to join the Navy to learn self discipline.

Football and baseball. And my knees remind me every morning about every hit and every inning in a catcher's crouch behind homeplate.

Let me answer a question with another question. I can't tell you how many people I've known that have sports injuries. Bad knees, shoulders, backs...was it worth it?? I never played any team sport. Did rather a lot of non-competitive bicycling and skiing but no goddam football or baseball or soccer. Basketball seems to be the worst sport for injuries. My knees are fine in spite of some spectacular crash-and-burns on the slopes and I'm glad I'm not limping around in pain like some of you ball players.

Those damn football, basketball, and baseball sports, have helped to keep many kids away from drugs and other bad habits.

I think injuries are part of sports, some are very unfortunate, but its an individual choice, to take the chance. Its too bad that when our bodies are at their peak, our minds arent yet.

Wrestling is contact, but it's grapeling and not hitting like football. While there are injuries, I don't think as many as Foot and Basketball. I was never injured. However, I did break a guy's arm =:-o up close and "personal". (he was choking me though so he deserved it).

Wrestled for 12 years. Started when I was 5 years old and "retired" when I graduated high school. Learned a lot from that sport. Taught me to be self-disciplined and dedicated in everything I do. It carried over to college and to my career. Great sport.

Played baseball, baseball, and baseball since I was old enough for my big bro to drag me into the yard. Thru HS some JC, little semi pro, which was just a little league for guys that could afford $250, and played in an over 30 league until I jacked up my back. Still play softball every Wednesday. My knees dont work so good, got shin splints, my shoulder makes my arm a mere shadow of its former self, used to able to bring it about 82-85, have all the range of a fence post but I can still hit! Wouldnt trade any of it. Go thru 2 tubes of IcyHot a month. Pop Alieve before and after every game. IS IT WEDNESDAY YET?? Just a baseball/softball junkie. Oh yeah, Ive coached for the last 7 years too. So I guess you could say I like baseball.

Swimmer here. Gave football and soccer a try. I was too short to make much out of football. They really weren't into 5'7" football players back then...even running backs. But we had a crappy HS team so it didn't matter.
I was a great goalie at soccer, unfortunately my teammate and 1st string goalie was a guy who ended up playing on a collegiate championship team and went on to play for Chile and Panama. Kind of hard to shine when your teammate is made of chrome.
Swimming was my forte'. I had a fun time, did well...never challenged Mark Spitz' records at the time, but I had some fun.
Still play some softball, biking, golf. No nagging injuries from the past...just new ones.

I played soccer as well. Played HS ball, but didn't take it too seriously. Was on a 3-time national champion 6-time state champion club team, and we played tournies in several countries. Guest-played for a team in Sweden, and tried out for the U-17 national team when I was 16. Didn't make the final cut, but Nike gave me free stuff for a year :) I ended up quitting half-way through my D1 career...I just wanted to enjoy college.

Played Football and Basketball into my Junior year of HS. Blew out my knee in a basketball game and while rehabing my knee, I discoverd music. Picked up a bass, joined a rock band and had more fun doing that then playing sports and the women were better. Tried out for my college basketball team but at 6'3" I was to short for frontline and to slow for the backcourt. Knee only bothers me when it gets cold and rainy.

Played scoccer all my life. I started playing when I was about 6 and still kick the ball around. I boxed in college and kept it up for a while after. Boxing is a great sport. It actually hepled me with my temper because I learned how to control myself and focus more. But every now and then my older brother pisses me off and I have to give him a good ole' fashion A$$ whoopin :)

I don't know Robby. The idea of two guys grappling and rolling around with each other while wearing tights always seemed kind of gay to me. (Not that there is anything wrong with that).

I was a nerd in high school and had no athletic ability. But I was on the math team and in the computer club.

Growing up in Kentucky, there is basketball, basketball, and basketball. I believe some other sports do exist, but not for this guy. I played basketball in high school and one year in college until I had knee surgery, a work related injury. I had knee surgery and some realy chinsy therapy. It was a workers compensation injury and they were only concerned with walking and strength, not lateral movement. After that I couldn't cut well enough to play up to the level I was plaing at previously, so I stopped playing all together. I ended up gained too much weight now and won't be able to play again until I drop that weight.

Never participated in organized sports. Even avoided intramural sports in the military. I fished a lot during high school and smoked cigars. Guess I didn't quite fit in with the crowd.

Wow! There's a lot of diversity here. But I guess that's to be expected. BTW, ever see "Ultimate Fighting"? The grapelers ALWAYS win... They take a little abuse on the way in, but once they get a hold of someone, it's over.

I have 5 brothers. Fighting and wrestling were not sports, they were a way of life, LOL.

I was never on the wrestling team but I did help some of my friends train. I am now into grappling (Jiu Jitsu) and help some other friends train for UFC type fights. Although I can’t say that grapplers ALWAYS win, I can say that grapplers are always dangerous. I agree with your first post, the one on one thing is pretty cool, I mostly enjoy the technical aspect of the sport, so much to learn.

During HS, I lettered in baseball and football (and felt a twinge in my right knee just reading Turnberry's response) ... I might've gotten one in wrestling as well, but (and my apologies to those of you whom I've bored with this story before) during the summer between my sophormore and junior years, I got kicked off the wrestling team ... that's right, school wasn't even in session and I got the boot ... there were half a dozen of us who got caught by the wrestling coach while livin' large on beer and cigars* in a local park ... big time violation of his rules and the 2 or 3 (or 4) of us who had been on the wrestling team found ourselves on the outside lookin' in ...

* My first cigar experience, BTW

I played baseball and football in high school and played collegiate baseball. Never could get into wrestling as a sport, being from the South, it was not something available to us in high shool at that time.

Baseball since i was 5...baseball and football in high-school...then 10 more years of baseball across the border in Mexcico...never any injuries ('cept for the snap-krackle-pop shoulder)...

Then paintball for a couple of months...broke my leg and tore up some ligament in my ankle...two surgeries and three pins later...figured i should have stuck to baseball...

Wrestle from 1st grade thru 7th. Taught me a lot that I never forgot. Never lost a fight. If you notice, the Ultimate Fighting Champions are generally Grapplers (Jujitsu). Should've stayed with it. Too many extra-curriculars, needed a break

Baseball 2nd grade-9th

Football (tackle) 6th grade thru 12th (broke my nose and seperated my shoulder my senior year)

Basketball 6th grade thru 9th (destroyed my back snow skiing had to retire right after I busted ass to make the Freshman team)

Track 6th thru 12th hurdles, relays, discus, sprints

Diving-Freshman in college (inspired by Rodney Dangerfield "Back to School")

I played Basketball, Baseball and Football. All my younger years. Never had any major injuries. Tore ligamints in both my ankles, they hurt sometimes. Nothing I cant stand, also my one knee hurts sometimes. But only because I still try to play basketball pretty much, I need exercise. I do still play softball when I can. I usally play football once a year, all my body can take. I stick to golf now. But that hurts my back, could be because of the tire that it holds up..
