All of a sudden, cigars that I have always loved, are dropping from my rotation. It's not that they are any different, I guess I changed. After the quality of my birthday sticks, all cigars pale in comparison. I mean, think about this, I normally , before my birthday, smoked Perdomos "The Cigar", as my everyday cigar, also a few other lesser known, and closeouts. I was perfectly happy with a Perdomo Squared, or maybe a CAO, or A.Fuentes, for a treat. Those days are gone now. Over the past few days, I have tried to ween myself off of the PAMs, OPUS_X, Gurkhas, A.Fuentes sungrowns Hemis' and such. Yesterday I tried to smoke a perdomo fresh rolled wheel, that had been in my Humi, a little over a year, and was not satisfied at all. It had mystereously transformed from the wonderful thing I smoked 2 Months ago, into something I scooped off the patio this morning. The cigar I am smoking, as I type this, a Puros Indios ""Special-Aged"" Piramide, just isn't doing it for me. I keep thinking about that ISOM Monte #2 sitting just a few feet away in the humi. Last night, I tried to smoke another old favorite, a 5 vegas double corona, Might as well been sucking on a soda straw, got no flavor whatsoever, I used to love those things, so I pulled a Padron Churchill Maddie out, and was satisfied with a very nice smoke, still wasn't a PAM64 though.
I know that it is me that has changed, and not the cigars, but I would rather blame the cigars than myself. I know that all of the cigars, I have been smoking over the past 2 days, are very good premium cigars, but when you have been smoking nothing but Super Premiums, they all taste like dog rockets.
My advice to other recipients, still treat them like the super premiums they are smoke them as a treat, not everyday. It is very hard to go back.

Dave,

I totally agree with you. I've noticed that my tastes are changing as I'm being exposed to more and more sticks. The everyday sticks I used to like, just don't seem to cut it anymore.

I started to save the really good ones for myself and give the "other's" to the volleyball gang. I mean after playing all day in the sand and having a coldy they dont care. Rob

Like many in this forum I can't afford
to smoke "Good One's" more than once a
week.

I allow myself one good stick a week as
a reward to myself. The rest of the week
is $1 to $4 sticks. And you know what, I
still love them.

I'm sure you use to be this way also. Like

Homebrew , I know you have my address. Just send them all to me and I will send you 1 every other month. I will have to smoke some to because of the storage fee. :}

Like what octo said.
If you can handle the $$$ though go for it.
I find my tastes change quite often. Some days all I feel like having are low to medium priced. I believe there is a time and place for most any cigar out there (I said most) to be a satisfying smoke.
I smoke a lot each day and am not ashamed to say most of them have run me about 50 cents to a buck each on CBid. The day I catch myself smoking any of those fine cigars you slammed while mowing the lawn is the day this ol' boy is hanging it up.
Hey, sorry I cannot give you pity but I will offer my help to get rid of those nasty ones you no longer like.
Send them to me!!
Maybe you burned out the taste buds with that hickory you used to BBQ - LOL.

Agree absolutely with the sentiments spoken here. For me too, super premiums are a once a week treat. During the week, I stick to my el ricos, regular pardrons, antanos (once a week), fuente chateau sun growns, oliva Os, consuegras, etc.

Life is too short to smoke bad cigars... Especially when good ones can be had at a reasonable price on-line.

I'm with X and Robby, every day above ground is cause to celebrate and why waste it on bad cigars.

Be very careful eyeing that Monte #2 Cuban. It will call your name to the darkside. Once the dardkside has been entered, very few come back. Everything else you smoke will be in anticipation of a Cuban cigar. LOL

Don't Fight It !!! Embrace the Darkside - less crowded and the cigars are better ---- No one on their death bed has ever longed for a 50 cent cigar - but then it's too late. Enjoy them while you have the ability.

It's only money - there is more out there to be made. I am dedicating this 1926 PAM No. 1 (Churchill Size) I'm now firing up to you and your Cigar Revelation....

Yes Dorks,
You, among others, have led me to the darkside. Wish it was a PAM, I will stay the path, but budget restraints, currently, have me making my way back into the light, Wish it were a PAM, gotta smoke what I have. Actually right now I am smoking a Trilogy Maduro, wish it was a PAM, and am actually enjoying it, wish it was a PAM. I am coming into the light, Wish it was a PAM, can you see me????? Wish it was a PAM.

Just pop some more of those pain meds and "pretend" it is a PAM. I don't even keep my really good smokes in my humidors so I won't be tempted. I keep them in their boxes in the coolers. Out of sight kind of thing. I'm afraid that I too would fall prey to your problems.

I love the Darkside, my wife still has control of the credit cards for now, so my darkside ventures are a little sneaky to say the least! CAO's are my favorite darkside smoke! Love the PAM's but still a little steep to sneak em in without being caught. Marriage.....ugh! LOL

If it's any consolation at all, this sort of thing happens with other passions as well. IE. Wine. I started many years ago with the Lancers, Boons Farm, etc. and progressed to vintage cabs. Soon had a 700 bottle cellar that was stuffed and trying to decide which room to convert into cold storage. Sound familiar? I finally decided to go ahead and smoke/drink and share it instead of collect it.

Sheesh Jd1, I would consider the list of your everyday smoke my list of premiums!

I lean towards the Rickmaven approach. My normal everyday smoke is something I don't whine over, if I have to sh17can it and go do something else. I live for the $5 bundle.

Not to say the occasional primo smoke sneaks in once in a while. I just find myself rarely able to find time to sit back and enjoy a good long smoke... uninterrupted. I hate to trash or relight a $10 plus cigar because I had to put it on hold. Never tastes the same second relight.

I've been fortunate over the past few weeks to have been supplied with a fair quantity of ISOM's from an old buddy of mine. Well traveled person he is.

Now those I will make some time for.

I totally know how this feels. I used to smoke 3 cigars a day and after a while, I had to upgrade the everydays and couldnt stand the previous ones.

Now I smoke 3-5 a week and appreciate every cigar because I dont get sick or used to them.

Homie,
I smoked one of those aged pyramids yesterday and it didnt do it for me either. Seemed they are aged a little too long.

Maybe we all need to have a birthday once a month to keep us all stocked up on good sticks!!!!!! LOL

I must confess that at times I've also fallen victim to the spoiled taste for good cigars syndrome. The humi with the PAMs, Anejos, Opuses and Hemis is always a tempting one to open. But as far as old favs turning to dog rockets, that depends. My Torano Exodus, EDRM, and Padrons are still great go to smokes. Heck, I've been sitting on a box of Thomas Hinds Hondurans, aging for almost 2 years and they've become pretty good. I guess my point is to let your dog rockets age a bit and they will be fine. Smoke the oldest old favs you got between the pricey smokes and I'm sure you'll be satified.

I have you all to blame!! All this talk about ISOMs, PANs, and PAMs (oh my). I broke in to the good stuff tonight after working several hours on a document. It's a PAM churchill out of that dress box they sold with one of each size? It's been in my humi for 2+ years... It is in a word, one of the best cigars I've ever smoked...

heh, ah yes, cigars, the great equalizer. It wasn't the A. I polished that off on 2/14 which was the official 2 year mark in my humi. It seemed to be a churchill size though, perhaps 6.5 x 48 or there abouts. And man was it good. Strong, but very smooth and flavorful in that clasic "you know what I mean" PAM sort of way.

I'm totally jealous... I've got one PAM diplomatico (I think thats the Churchill size) in my treasure humi. Guess I better let it sit for another year. Meanwhile some regular Padron Natural Churchills will have to hold me over until I break down , But I'm so tempted now!!!! See what you did!!!

Homebrew - I'll offer an extremely difficult solution to your dilemma. I understand that this may draw some jeers from the peanut gallery, but here it goes:

Don't smoke any cigars for 5-7 days (ok, ok - bear with me here - ok, how about 2-3 days??) - In the meantime, gargle with some Listerine 3-4 times per day to cleanse all the tasty cigar flavor and nicotine from those taste buds and help them relax a little. Keep this up until you absolutely need a cigar (if you can make it past 2 days, you are a big winner in my book). After that - I guarantee that your old school daily favs will bring a smile to your face once again......

Of course, I'm just a newbie and I've never smoked a ISOM Monte #2, so what the hell do I know......

All together now: "Shut up, Newbie!!"

Homebrew - I am truly honored. I'd like to thank the Academy, and everyone who voted for me. I can honestly say that I was happy just to be nominated.......

Missle of the month, huh? Well, I won't argue with someone who wants to send me free smokes, so I'll just say, "bombs away". I may be a newbie, but I'm not stupid!! And if you made it 73 hours 15 min. and 32 sec., then you are a better man than most. One question: How was the 33rd second, what were you smoking and how was it?? I guess that's 3 questions....

funjohnny
