Went to a buddies house the other day for a few smokes and some beers and I noticed when he pulled the Gars out of his humi that they wer already cut ready for smoking. I had never seen this done before so I asked him why. He said he always cuts them before putting them cause he can never find a cutter when he needs it. Anybody hear of this before. Is there any harm to the Cigars by doing this. The 3 I had was Great!!

Absolutely fine but should only cut what you will use in the near future and not be returning to inventory.

I prefer to cut my own cigar just before smoking..
part of the "process" in my opinion..

If your buddy is that disorganized why doesnt he just
buy a cutter and keep it in his humi at ALL times..

I would not be impressed being offered a "pre-cut" cigar.. JMHO

It is prefectly acceptable to precut smokes especially for a gathering where you are supplying the sticks. Also, when time allows, I sometimes precut my smokes to be carried in public (inside affairs). This prevents the problem of having loose tobacco (and caps)scattering about.

I don't think it matters either; I just don't cut until I'm ready to smoke. Personal preference.

I do not believe it will do harm if not left out of the humi for an amount of time. This will cause the tobacco at head to get dry and then they feel rough to the touch when smoked.
PS - I always keep a cutter in my pocket.

The only time I think it would really matter is if he offered a precut cigar to someone who only likes to smoke them punched. And as long as he isn't cutting them so that they unravel.

Do what feels good to you and don't worry about what everyone else says.

I agree with Slim and jd1 ... it doesn't matter ... as a rule, I don't cut prior to lighting, but over the years, there've been instances where I took out a cigar, cut it, changed my mind for some reason and took a different one to smoke instead ... in one recent instance, the cut cigar had been sitting in the humi for months, maybe even a year, before I finally actually lit and smoked it ... I've detected no difference whatsoever in the smoking experience ...

Hey, if it's good enough for Hava Tampa, Antonio y Cleopatra, and Garcia Vegas, then it's good enough for....oh, nevermind.

Some folks are reluctant to smoke a cigar that they have not seen cut. I never light a cigar that appears to draw too tightly. I, first, assume that it's wet and place it in a drybox after cutting and testing the draw. After a day or two, I try it again. If it's fine I'll smoke it; if not, I may use a Drawpoker and let it rest again. Twice I've placed the cigar in my mouth. I'm not sure that even my closest friends would relish smoking a cigar that I've already had in my mouth, two times. I feel the same way. When someone hands me a stick that was lying, cut in the humidor, I assume they checked the draw a couple of times, previously. Cigars aren't the most sanitary items in the world, but I'd prefer to smoke those that do not have others' saliva on them.

I wonder if Monica's cigar had saliva on it.

Saliva on or saliva off? LMAO

Pre-cutting is a no-no in my book. It makes the cigar feel, somehow, already used. Besides, the shape of the cut is a personal thing, punch, big or small clip or tiny punch like from a toothpick. And, your preference may change from day to day. It also weakens the construction. If the cigar ever gets too dry the head may unravel if it has already been clipped.
