hmmm, perhaps they felt they weren't getting enough for the box so they extended it? I think a press conference is in order for an official explanation?

If this is true, I believe we need an explanation from cigarbid. gonz?

I too have experienced strange occurrencies. About 10 days ago I contacted customerservice about lot# 11443 (La Cubanita Minutos, small "in between smokes"), which at its opening day only had one bidder bidding on 1 of 4 items at $24.00. I asked where are the bidders for the three remaining items, and that I doubted that the Minitos had already reached $24.00. CB wrote back that there'd been a problem. I checked back, and I am positively sure that there were now more than one bidder, and at much lower bids. Later, the number of boxes up for grabs was reduced to one single box, which in the end went for $20.00. Again I brought up the matter to CB, who answered that there was only on box up for bidding. I don't know, but I'd say "Something's rotten in Denmark....!" DOH!!! ;)

Just read the fine print, here it is...I guess its CAVEAT EMPTOR for us CB fanatics.

7) Auction Changes
CigarBid.com reserves the right to change posted quantities, remove from sale or re-offer items that were previously withdrawn. We also reserve the right to close auctions early or to extend auctions at any time and at our discretion. Posted closing times and displays of CigarBid's current time are approximate and based on eastern standard time.

that is somewhat lame, and not in the spirit of auctions. Often CB gets more than retail for auctions, and they should also take a hit now and then and take a loss, that is how auctions go. I sell quite a bit on Ebay, and boy I wish I had that clause CB does! But I often get more than wanted for a item, other times less. That clause if more people know about it may scare bidders aware, for suddenly the game is rigged folks.

aberdeen, the good thing with ebay (and Yahoo Auctions) though is that you establish a rating. Everyone gets to rate you after they've dealt with you. Your rating is displayed with your username on anything you bid on or sell, so you are bound to do right by people or risk hurting your reputation. BTW, Yahoo Auctions has an auto-extension feature that extends the auction by 5 minutes after a bid is placed, but NOT 3 days! If this auto-extension of an auction by 3 days happens often on cigarbid, they'll ruin THEIR reputation. I hope this is a rare occurence for members. Anyone else with problems?

the fine print is all well and good if there are no bidders , but once there are bidders they should not touch the lot anymore , well im sure i will be bidding ALOT less if at all , now that i see how they can screw you anytime they feel like it.

I agree that if there is at least one bidder, there should be no additional changes. I haven't noticed this personally, but I will be watching. If this did happen as hhjr described, I'm very disappointed. I hope that we can get an explanation or clarification on this.

Lame to say the least. IMHO, it seems that most bids go above retail and far above other sites. So the occasional "deals" should be left at that. No...you did not hear a gallop, I've dropped my stick a long time ago, along with my winning bids :[

Bud451, I don't think you're right about most bids go over retail. Maybe 5-packs, if measured to the price of a box. But lot of boxes/bundles are won at very reasonable prices. Example: The other day I won a bundle of La Luna (Corona size) at $10.00 less than CI charge, which anyway is below $1.00 a stick. And boxes of 5 Vegas Dbl. Coronas were won at ½ the price that CI charges. So...........

If there has been a mistake in the lot planning by CigarBid, this is what is done: if there are active bids, information can be changed only if the change is considered immaterial. For example, if a lot was mistakenly posted in the 5-PACK category rather than QUICK-IES accidentally, it will be corrected. However, even immaterial changes are rare. If you have an example where this has happened contact me directly at [email protected], anybody who deals with us knows our customer service people are extremely reasonable.

I wanted to respond to Hansen's question about Lot #11443 (by the way, if you need more detail, let me know - sorry I can't get out to the forum and review every message. Just email me at [email protected] if you have a bidding issue.) The quantity on this lot never changed. It was always 1. However, a long, long time ago we also had a lot #11443 with a quantity of 4. So, when this new lot #11443 went live, the bids displayed were erroneous. In fact, the quantity available said 1, but the lot displayed a winning bidder with 1 of 4 (which makes no sense) and the bid date was from a long time ago. So, I re-created the new lot as a brand new lot leaving in any new bids. This brought the lot up-to-date. There was never any intent to deceive or change lot quantity or bid time. I hope this helps.

Thanks to Keith and Gonz for the response. I think that we can all feel safe in future bidding on Cigarbid. This has always been a class operation.
Their customer service dept is second to none.

Yea Hanson....you're probably right. Most bids seem to be a little below retail, but since the "cigar boom" is said to be over, I haven't payed anywhere NEAR retail for cigars. Sorry, I was just venting my fustration with my loosing bids :[
