Can anyone tell me about these smokes?
My local smoke shop had them in with a limit on the number you can purchase. I picked up a few to try and am curious as to what to expect.
The tobacconist at the shop said it had the same tobacco as the Chateau Sun Grown with a fuller flavor. He said that it reminded him more of Opus than the Chateau SG.
Thanks,
Matt

A close second, only in the respect that it is (IMHO) the next runner-up to the best of the AF SG's ... and I still think that the 858SG is the best sun-grown they have made, to date, with the excepting of the very limited release of the Hemi SG ...
... but the flavor profile (and the tobacco used) of the two (Cuban Beli and 858SG) are very different ...

Yeah ... I finally broke down and smoked one yesterday evening. Man ... what a smoke! I enjoyed every minute of it!
I had four, but gifted out two of them at the BAD herf, and thought I'd better smoke one before I ended up being generous again ... ;^)
I have one left ... that will probably sit in my humi now ... waiting for that 'special occasion' that never seems to arrive ... LOL!

I had one for Fathers day. It was in a word, very very good. I'm not sure it's worth what I gave for it, but maybe with some age. Will let you know next year. That's 1 down, 3 to go...

X,
Where did you pick up a 5 pk of the Hemi SG's. These were special cigars made for contest winners. Only 165 boxes made. I ran my A$$ all over NJ to get them... Picked up quite a few... smoked 1, traded some, keeping some...

Yeah ... no offense ... but I am also curious about the 5-pack of AF Hemi SG's for $44 ...
... I knew of one guy that was given a box for his help in setting up a winning display by the shop owner, and he had them up for sale over for $85 for each 5-pack.
xibbumbero --- if you did indeed get the 5-pack for $44, you are one very lucky man for getting them at (or very close to) MSRP ...
You da Man!!!

On the AF SG Hemi's,what I did was call around and found out who was getting them. I found one site and he allowed me to pre-order a 5pack until he got them in. X

OK ... I take it back.
You are not a 'one lucky man', since only a small degree of luck was involved ...
... you did the research, painstakingly took on the 'footwork', and worked hard to get them!
So, you earned them ... LOL!

The Fuente SGs are good cigars but out of the box they can't touch the 858 as echoed here. I have found that letting the regular SG line sit for a few months makes a remarked difference. Out of the CBeli SG box I got, several were gifted out, I smoked one and the rest will rest until at least Nov. The beli SG was better than the other SGs but will get even better with some time. IMHO of course, but I just like to let semi-premiums sit a while longer.

I have to ask, does the 858 only come in SG?

No ... there is a Claro (sucks), Natural (good) and Maduro (better) also ...
... but the 858SG is EXCELENT, and there is no other like it ... and was Patriarch Arturo Fuente's private cigar (made just for him by his best rollers) ... until it was released after his death in 2000 ...
There have only been three releases so far ... and Carlito has said ... there will not be another release.

another question - how are they differentiated. I saw all the posts and picked up an 858 it says Flor Fina on the cello. Guess I should have asked in the shop.
it smells good.

The Sun Grown has a black band around the bottom. Flor Fina 858.
And you are right.. they smell good. All Fuentes smell good to me. My wife took up smoking cigars when I got hooked on Fuente.

The SG's also are wrapped in cedar, with the 'black band' wrapped around it at the foot.

I smoked one of the Cuban Belicosos last night and rather enjoyed it! I think I'll leave the others sit for several months before picking one up again.
I did notice a strong cedar odor to it everytime I broughtteh cigar up to my mouth for a puff. I ended up removing the cedar sleeves from the rest of them in hopes that this strong odor will disipate over time into a more mild odor.

The Maduro's are the best of the three ... if you can't get the SG's!

thanks fellas. i have smoked candelas and i do like them for a yard gar - but never attempted to buy a claro. Hell i had no idea they were green - damn i tried not to look stupid.
i smoked the 858 tonight. to me it was just OK. I preferred the perla habana i had earlier. i'll have to find the belicoso and search for the 858 SG. i like the chateau sun grown.

Oddly enough, I find myself agreeing with Slim. The SGs rule, the madies are also quite excellent...
