Hey I just got back from Canada. I was told by the cigar store owner there(Of course CUBAN), that he heard that the US might lift the embargo on Cuba!!! Has anyone else heard anything to that nature?

... and has been for almost a year now.

I believe it's not going to happen, until Castro is dead.

Hey Clinton was opening the door, Bush slammed it shut. If somone else is voted in, it will happen during their term.

The embargo was signed by Kennedy. Granted, if he were alive today he would probably be a Republican . . .

Clinton had 8 years to end the embargo. Neither Democrats or Republicans are anxious to piss off the south Florida Cuban ex-pat voters.

The embargo was instituted as an executive oder. Fearing that President Clinton was going to lift said order, it was codified into law (Helms-Burton Act?). The congressman who keeps trying to repeal this is a Republican from the heartland, I think.
In the current environment, one of two things must happen in order to move forward - Castro's death or Bushki losing re-election. Looks like a long, cold winter.

Clinton was going to lift it during his term until there was a US plane shot down by a bunch of Cubans so that killed it right there. I bet once this whole Middle East deal is over with and Korea is taken care of I predict it will happen.
