just recently purchased a humi for my Father back on Fathers day. I went to visit this weekend his hygrometer read 80. I had it @ 70 when I gave it to him. Anyway he has some mold on the humidifiers. Should these be soaked in something or just scraped off? Anyone ever seen this?

Thanks

I had a humidifier do the same thing during warm weather and high humidity. I took it out and cleaned it, scraped and washed. then let it rest for a week. I saw no mold on any of the cigars and it has not happened again. St Louis weather can really suck!!

Sounds like a straight water solution is being used.
first thing to do is replace the humidifying medium ie florist foam or even better anti-bacterial sponge. Then move away from straight water and into a 50/50 PG solution.
And like Charlie said twice. Dry box the cigars for a time. The humidor could benefit for a time open outside also to dry out.

Agree. However, make sure that what you see is mold and not florist foam pushed out of the humidifier. Had one instance when I thought I was looking at mold, but actually the foam in the humidifier was powdered (vibration from traveling, long shelf life, who knows) and when solution was added it caused it to appear on the outside of the slots, where it dried. Looked for all the world like mold, but actually wasn't.

Only 1 cigar had mold on it it was a tiny bit around the foot. I did take the cigars out for a bit. Then I decided to take the humidifiers out instead, leaving the cigars in the humidor. The hygrometer remained at 63 overnight. When I set up the humidor I used distilled water. When the Humidifiers are reintroduced after a week, I think it would be wise to use only one. That way the humiditity can be controlled easier. Any thoughts here?
