We have had lots of postings on the Joya de Nicaragua Antanos and yes they are very, very good! Opus good---not quite! Joyas are the most powerful cigars I have ever smoked.....do not drive a car, operate a lawn mower or anything like that while smoking one! Really has herbal flavors, strong and robust and well made...all in all, great cigar, but not an Opus!

The Opus X's that I've had have complex and subtle tastes. The cigar evolves while smoking, especially if it's allowed to age. The '70 is like Emeril popping up outta nowhere and clobbering you on the head and yelling "BAM!", there's no complex mixture here...just unadulaterated strength. A very good STRONG cigar. I enjoy them a lot.

I knew Opus X, and you sir are no Opus X!

From what I have heard, the newer releases are not as strong as the first releases. I got some of the Churchills and I found them not as strong and a little more complex than the first one's I tried. BTW,the JDN Antano is a very good cigar but not FFOX good,JMO. X

the JDN antanos are very good but very strong. i like them but i have to be careful with them. ive had some that sat for a few months and their flavor improved greatly. IMHO the opus x are grotsequely overrated. ymmv.

Agreed...for the money, Joya de Nicaragua is a much better buy than the infamously overrated Opus X.

...I do believe someone coined the following phrase, "It's like sticking your head over the business end of a chimney..." But, tastes much better. DO NOT drink java with this one....it will lead to blood-shot eyes and an upset stomach...oh, what fun! Seriously, it is much better when endulging in a good stout or bourbon. I've had it with a higher end single malt and it tends to smother the scotch's characteristics.

It's no Opus, but for $4-$5 how can you go wrong?

What Sonny said...

If you REALLY want a treat, smoke one with a snort or two of Bookers Bourbon, all 126 proof of it. But hide the small animals before hand. We dont need any "Incidents"

I love 'em! Juuuuuusssst a little on the strong side. Have several of the belicosos resting in the humidor. The last one I had was playing a round of golf in a scramble with 95-100 degree heat, bright sun, no food for the day and lots of beer. Didn't win any money but it was a great smoke!!!

My go too gar,
When I need a good jolt, with great flavor, I grab a Grand Gonsul 1970. Rocks mt world, as well as my palate. I am going to have to smoke another OPUS_X to be sure, but I actually prefer the Joya De Nick Better, than an opus, hold on there's that Fuente Fuente Opus_X, time for a comparison, Just finished a nic, about 2 hours ago. Alright how much sorbet will it take to cleanse my palate?
I guess A pint will do.
Let you know how it comes out.
Later
