OK ...

I know it's a little early, but that's good ... we can get this all set up with time to spare instead of in a last minute rush like last year ...

For all those who've participated before, it's gonna be pretty much the same deal ... for those of you that weren't here or weren't in our pool last year, here's the deal:

It's a weekly pool, much like office pools everywhere that most of you have participated in, if not at work, then elsewhere elsewhere at one time or another ...

On the Tuesday preceeding the games, I send each participant an e-mail listing the matchups for the coming week ... each participant returns his/her picks to me no later than Friday ... it's a simple tally of right/wrong predictions without considering odds or spread that determines the weekly winner and a prediction of the score for the MNF game serves as a tie-breaker, should one be necessary.

Each Saturday, after receiving the picks, I send a list to each participant, listing the predictions of everyone in the pool so everyone call follow along.

then, on Tuesday, following completion of the games, I send a note to each declaring the weekly winner and his contact info so winnings can be sent out.

Last year, we decided to send cigars at the end of weeks 4, 8, 12 and 17. There were a couple of problems surrounding that and I'm working on a different formula to prevent those problems from recurring this year.

I'm 'paid' for time and trouble by each person in the group sending me a pre-season, a mid-season and a post-season cigar.

Last year, we had approximately 20 guys in the pool at any one time ... there were between 25 and 30 who played, but not each one played every week ... this year, I'd like to get more guys ... build the pool and maybe even have a second place prize ...

drop me a note if you're interested in participating or if you have questions ...

yep ... from IS part of my addy

Steve, since it's early I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions just to kick around.

1. First of all, since the pool is mucho work, in addition to your "payment" you should be allowed to abstain from having to send out cigars each week to the winners. In otherwords, you play for free.

2. Instead of simply picking the winner of each game, we could work it with a point system:
Each week there are 15 or 16 games.
Each person assigns a point value to each pick.
For instance, if you KNOW the Patriots will beat the Raiders, you assign a high point value (15) to that game. You use 1 through 15 (or 16) each week. You get points only on games you pick correctly.

This adds some complexity, but it provides an added benefit. Instead of having a second place finisher, we could offer end of season awards to the highest point total, and also to lowest point total (if that person played every week).

Sounds good,
But UsaHog, ran a pool on the ncaa tournament using a website, that did alot of the work for you, I believe it was called Tourneytime, don't know if it is a pay service or not, but I don't think so. Could take alot of work off of you.
Just a thought

This pool sounds interesting. Does everyone just send one cigar to the winner? If your team looses that week, can it be a rot-gut cigar? Premium if they win?

Anyway, CBS sportsline.com had a system that was free for running the NCAA Basketball tourney, they may have something else for football pools. It would be worth looking into.

I know Yahoo has pool setups too. I'll keep an eye out to see when they come out.

And I'm with Mag, GO RAIDERS!!!! Don't mess with the Raiders or else Al Davis will sue you! Chiefs can kiss my ....! That's just my "unbiased" opinion.

Turbo, I guess you werent here last season.

Grammer doesnt get you ANY points while talking smack. Good attemp at changing the subject.

Now ask anyone on these boards, who likes to talk smack, and I will be on their list.

Remember newbie, you are just above pond scum at this point. You dont know me, and what you are getting yourself into.... :>)

Mag, I'm ready for the challenge. It's you who doesn't know what they're getting themselves into. You've been too secure, resting on your 'smack talking' laurels, while n00biez like me have been perfecting our game and taking it to a whole new level.

It's time for a changing of the guard!

Turbo, sounds like it's gonna be fun this season. I won a lot of cigars last year, until the last game.

Now, you shouldnt have brought up the grammer stuff, whats this? "It's you who doesn't know what they're getting themselves into."

Hehe, shouldnt it be "you're" instead of "they're", and "yourself" instead of "themselves"?

I really dont care, but if you're gonna be a wise guy about spelling & grammer, then you goofed! Hehe!

GO RAIDERS & THE RAIDER NATION!

Naw, I think I'm right. Nice try though. All those outrageous taxes in Cali and you still can't get a decent public education!

... all in jest

Sorry to have been delinquent in getting info out to some who've inquired ... I sent so many e-mails lately that hotmail imposed some sort of temporary flood control and I couldn't send outbound for a while ... info should come to you today ...

There are a lot of guys coming on board ... if many of those who've simply inquired also join, the group will be quite a large one ... prize(s) will be significant ... and guys ... (hint, hint) given who some of those that're coming on board are, you won't want to miss a chance to win what they'll be sending out ...

sorry Bill ... LOL

between the football pool and the media thing, I've sent so cotton pickin' e-mails out in the last couple of days that hotmail imposed some sorta flood control on me ... I've been VERY limited in what I could send out yesterday and again today ...

But, I DID put you in the "yes" folder ...

I would love to, but with all the different directions I'm going it is too tough to keep up.

I think I lost count and got behind too many times on sending out the loser cigars to the winner each week.

I'd planned to get e-mails out to all of last years participants as well as to other potential new players this year ... but there's a lot of you for whom I don't have an e-mail addy ...

SO ... if you want to participate in the pool or, if you just want more info, let me know ... I'll add you to the information list and you can decide from there, whether or not to participate ...

my addy again is:

Billy, I studied hard last year! I think my average was a bit over 50%. With the parity in the NFL, game prediction is impossible. Makes for exciting games though!

Oh, I see what you are trying to do...I get it! You want me to quit studying so that you can dominate this year...Hmmmm! I simply cannot let that happen.

I know that Huskey has a system and I am sure it is from studying, eating the right meals, saying his prayers and Pure Luck! =)

Actually, I do believe that anything can happen every weekend and it is a best guess thing!
