Recently my local cigar shop has told me he got his hands on some H. Uppmann Corona Gorda ISOM. But they were not in their orginal box and did not have bands on them. He said the corona gorda does not come with bands and the box is for customs reason. He wants 10.50 a stick too. I like to believe he is right but I want to question the orgin of them. Any information is helpful.

The Corona Gorda is 5 5/8 x 46 ...

It's a no brainer for me ... and I'd just smile and walk away ... and would go and pick out a nice cigar that I knew what it was ... too many red flags ...

BTW --- the most reputable site that I know of that sells Cuban cigars ... doesn't even list a Corona Gorda.

They list a Corona, Gran Corona, and Super Corona ... but not Corona Gorda ... interesting. What they have, that may be what the guy is selling ... is a Super Corona ... which matches the size what the one site site I posted above called a Corona Gorda.

The only H. Upmann that come unbanded (that I know of, besides the minis) are the Connoisseur No. 1 (Hermoso No.4) 5 X 48, the H. Upmann Magnums, Majestics (Nacionale) 5½ x 40, and the Coronas 5½ x 48 ... but then, with the 'almost 200' handmade and machine-made sizes and shapes, I obviously don't know them all ... LOL!

The site I posted first also lists the 'Corona Gorda' as a H. Upmann-Magnum No. 46, with Corona Gorda in parentheses ...

The H. Upmann-Magnum No. 46 has no band. I've had many in my local shop, North of the 49th of course. If this guy is reputable, It's the real deal. If he owns the shop just to turn a buck, don't buy anything from him.

If you really want to know, buy 2, send me one in the form of a trade and I will varify for you. The magnum 46 is one of my favorites as I've mentioned many times before. I pay $29 CAN for them.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Godfather, when he showed us those Upmanns.

I'd like to believe him too, since he hasn't let us down before, but for $10.50 each, it's a real gamble. Even if they're counterfeit, they might still be good; and even if they're real, they still could be bad (you know how Cubans are), so I don't know.

I'm with Slimboli on this one. Walk away. If you have a chance to smoke the H. Upmann corona gorda size (the Magnum 46) from a reliable source, do it. That is one good smoke. It does not come with a band.

See how serious he is. Tell him, you'll buy one, smoke it there. If it blows your skirt up, shake his hand and say thanks, if you're not satisfied, cut a deal of at least half price... If he thinks they're legit and believes you'll be satisfied, he should jump on that.
