I have tried a new local shop, one that sells Bucs. I have purchased from there three times and each time the owner has asked me if I want him to cut my cigarsfor me. No other shop I have been in has asked this in the past and it wasn't like I was buying just a single. Has anyone else had this happen and why does he keep asking me this?

You're going to Edward's aren't you?

If not, then they do the same thing. They'll even dip the end in liquors or booze.

The only time I let them cut a cigar for me is if I'm going to hang around and smoke there. I've never had one dipped yet. That's just not my bag, baby.

Yea, what's that dipping all about? I've seen several other folks do this. Is it for flavor? To keep the band from unraveling? I don't get it.

Never been offered a cut, but then all my cigars have that nice plastic applicator tip that is good from the get go (J/K).

Yes, and it doesn't bother me to politely say, "No thank you"! Have had other shop owners offer me a cutter to use on my newly purchased cigar....same answer since I always have cutters with me!

Most of the shops I've been to ask, but is usually under the assumption that you are going to light one up right away. When buying more than one, they only ask if I would like one cut... not the whole bunch.

Believe it or not, some people (including the person behind the counter at the cigar shop) have a difficult time cutting the cigar tip. Most of the time I have found that the shop is just trying to do you a favor in offering to cut the cigar for you. However, you should use caution; a v-cutter, straight cut, or plug cut, can be screwed up by them just as easily as it can be by a novice cutter. Don't think they mean any harm by it, just an offer to help (BTW if they screw it up (the cut) you can always ask for another cigar).

It's just a customer service thing. The shops I buy from know I am a traveler and I'm usually hitting the road for a few hours. So they offer to cut and light one for me for the road.

Mine asks all the time and always gives me a box of matches, don't tell Robby.

I've never had one dipped. Has anyone tried this, I'm currious? I wonder if it would add a profile to an otherwise plain smoke. You dip the cut end? does it affect the draw?

If the cigar shop staffer offers to cut your 'gar for you, it means one of several things.

1. He's hitting on you (in which case be careful when you put your cigar in your mouth not to do it suggestively)
2. He's trying to sell you a $10 cutter for $59
3. He's a rabbi practicing for his next 'snip job'

Lim...yeah, I don't recommend it as it REALLY tightens the draw (like Macanudos...like suckin' air through a brick wall, those Macs are)...
