I had a little trouble with them too, but it wasn't as bad. All in all, it worked out pretty good for me. I built up a pretty nice DVD collection until I fulfilled my commitment. It probably came out something like $12 ea.

Once I was done, I told them I wanted out. They told me they could keep me on without the auto directors cut B.S. so I wouldn't have to fill anything out. That went on for a year or so but their regular prices are so freekin' high that I was never again interested.

Enjoy the Buc.

P.S. That director's cut of yours IS a piece of crap. By far, the worst Bond flick. Terrible, just terrible!

usahog, check out www.half.com for DVDs. I used to buy all my DVDs from them. A lot of the DVDs are ex-rentals from Netflix and places like that. All the DVDs I bought came in excellent condition. I was buying up DVDs for less than $5.00 a piece. It was worse than my current CBID addiction.

If you check out the site, look towards the bottom of the main page on the right-hand side. You will see a link for Bargain Bins. Check out the "$7.99 or less" DVDs.

Another good place to buy DVDs is overstock.com. I recently purchased the first 3 Clint movies in a set and quite a few kids movies. Their S&H is very low.

Hog,

No experience with overstock, but I can confirm half.

Plasma is not a great value at this stage. DLP has not gotten black right yet, it's still a dark charcoal grey. There's alot to consider. I've got a Hitachi 36", tube HDTV and I love it, but I'm only about 12' from the screen in my temp. rental. I've got the 5.1 system hooked up of course, but I'm eagerly awaiting the completion of my addition.

I am currently re-watching Band of Brothers at the rate of 30 minutes a night. I taped it when it was on.
Most Excellent.

Mr.Telcom, it's funny you mentioned HBO's Band of Brothers. I spent about a week of nights downloading every episode. I watched it when it aired, but that is some great stuff.

My grandfather was "lucky" enough to serve in both campaigns. I can remember getting into his old colections. German pistols, Japaneese swords and his medals. Seeing that show brought back the reality that my grandfather went through some of the same experiences.

Enjoy those episodes. I love "Crossroads" and "The Patrol".

Thought you might like this one as well. I order from here and never pay shipping. movies are brand new and mostly current. Nice place to get movies that otherwise would be overpriced.

www.deepdiscountdvd.com and for cd's its www.deepdiscountcd.com

Enjoy!

regarding the columbia house. you find out after you are involved in it that none of the dvd's or cd's you bought qualify for the fullfillment of their required amount of discs. any letter you send will be ignored.

their protocal is to keep sending bills hoping to wear you down. whoever you talked to has no interest in anything you have to say. his job is to simply do what he did, bull**** you, from a series of responses he has been taught. they can't report to any credit bureau and they have their own collection agency. you can't win straight up. don't even open their mail. if they send you a dvd or cd, keep it. their contract is bull**** to start with and you are not responsible for anything you did not order. you are under no obligation to notify any seller of anything that you do not want the next shipment. you can not sign away your right to ignore any request by a seller that you say "no", even thought the contract says you will. the contract is illegal. patience and throw it all in the trash. when you get the first letter from their "collection agency", consider it spam. if you respond, they will keep sending threats to you. just don't open them and you will not get bothered. they are a scam.

netflix is a great site for what it can do. you will seldom find the brand new releases, but you can find dvd's that no one else has. they have simple way of oredering a bunch of dvd's in advance. when you get the dvd, you rip off the cover label and when you finish the dvd and want to send it back it is self-sealable and postage is prepaid. as far as a problem dvd, they are no worse then any other rental place.

be careful of some of the promos from off the wall companies. you end up with a vhs that has been copied to a dvd without any filtering or enhancing.it's usually not as good as the vhs because the transfer process is junk. not unlike the early days of cd's, if you are old enought to remember. many were nothing more then a bunch of records copied on to a cd, blips, scratches, and all.
