Being fairly new to the cigar world I need suggestions on storing cigars. I keep my cigars in a humidor with an analog gauge and keep humidifiers with 50/50 solution. I have seasoned the humidifier when new, about a year ago. I keep humidity btwn. 66-70. Problem is summer temps. in the Fresno area have been in excess of 100 degrees for almost a month staight. I've noticed the cigars are drying out. Humidor holds btwn. 125 and 150 cigars. Any suggestions, short of buying an expensive new humidor. I keep humidor on closet shelf. I didn't have this problem until the last month or so. If you think a new humidor is way to go, what types have temp control devices and not cost an arm and leg? Thanks.

Are you letting your cigar get that hot??? If so, it's not drying that you have to worry about as much as beetles. Don't let the temp get over 73 or so if you can help it.

I've heard of people putting those refreezable ice packs in there. You would want to put them in a zip-loc or 2 so the condensation doesn't make its way in.

You're talking daily maintenance, but that just gives you an excuse to look at your babies.

My recommendation: I don't believe buying a new humi will solve the problems.

First thing, get a digital hygromoter and ensure that you verify settings using the salt test. Analog hygromoters are not reliable and do they provide a true reading.

Then move the gars to the basement if you have one or keep the temperature in the room where the cigars are stored at 72 degrees. I use a portable air conditioner to do this.

Regards,

B

All you have to do ... is add distilled water to your 'credo' more often ... and that means as often as necessary ...

... that's all I do, and my cigars are just fine.

I live in Riverside. It is hard to keep temps at 70 in the summer. I keep my humidors, in the summer only, inside a towel closet, as near to the floor as I can. Remember heat rises! The closer to the floor, the better in the summer. Also the door is kept closed.

Get an igloo cooler and a couple of blue freeze packs designed for them. Put your humidor in the cooler with the freeze pack. Swap the freeze packs daily and you should be fine.
