i've read all youse guy's (brooklyn, ny, born and bred) posts and appreciate your sharing your
thoughts. i have listened to as many talking heads and read everythiing i could get my mouse on,
to try to form an opinion that was logical and could stand the light of day.

what do we know?

kobe is a great basketball player and might be one of the best ever, might be.

he took some time to understand that phil jackson is the man and when he learned that, three rings appeared.

he has been accussed of rape, the PC word for breaking his marriage vows and not only screwing around on his wife, but with a woman who did not want him to have sex with her.

we know these millionaire sports heros, particularly, for some reason, basketball players more then most, are subjected to temptations that most of us couldn't even imagine. i was under the impression that the test of a man was his ability to look temptation in the eye, and walk away.

he apologized to his wife.by spending 4 million dollars for a piece of coal, that nature kindly mixed
with other minerals and compressed for a long, long time, and turned it into a really hard piece of glass that is purple, and sparkles in the light, when he could have used the 4 million as seed money to establish a "vanessa bryant wing" at a hospital to treat one or more specific problems facing women, but she is 19 or 20 and he is mid 20's, so a diamond probably seemed like a good idea.

kobe's parents did not attend his wedding and have moved back east..

what do we think we know?

kobe and his parents don't talk to each other much, if at all. i have no grandcildren, but the thought of not talking to my sons on a regular basis, is beyond comprehension.

the police rushed to arrest him before they discussed the accusation and the proof with the DA.

the girl might have tried to commit suicide once or twice and gloria alread, the jesse jackson of women's causes, claims that if she did it has nothing to do with whether he raped her or not..gloria did not mention that it might explain why she accused him.

he might be innocent.

why do we care?

if you are not a laker fan, you probably don't give a rat's ass about kobe and his problem except how it will affect your own teams chances this season.

if you are a laker fan, you care about whether or not it will interfere with another championship is coming this season

Charles Barkley perhaps said it best, " I am not a role model."

I thought he said..."I like to roll with models"...I dunno, maybe it was my bad ear.

Ric, your points are valid. I'm content to see it unfold in a courtroom. I heard that there were some torn clothes, and that's not too good for Kobe.

yeah, torn cloths, bruising, screams heard by other hotel guests... Of course the apologists will say "oh, they were just playing rough..." or you don't know what your talking about, or the best and in my opinion stupidest, "he could have whoever he wanted, why would he rape someone?" As I said before, rape is a crime of violence, not an act of sex. Lot's of men rape who are otherwise capable of having unforced sex with women. This guy puts his pants on the same way they do. That's not to say he is guilty until we hear all of the facts, but to simply say, oh he's rich and could have whoever he wants and use that as some sort of argument that there's no way he could be guilty is absurd.

I think he's guilty. Others think he's not. But we shouldn't think that he's either based on the fact that he's a pro basketball player. My point, a rapist is a rapist, whether they're a CEO or a grill chief at the Waffle House...

Doesn't Kobe watch TV? Didn't he see what happened to Mike Tyson? A difference is that Tyson doesn't seem like a nice young man to anyone. If I had that kind of public visibility, I would consider a coyly worded "Maybe we shouldn't" the legal equivalent of a loudly screamed "NO NO NO!" He could rent the best looking hooker in Vegas for chump change, and they don't go to the law, so why be so reckless?

I can't judge by what we are hearing because we don't know what is true and what is false. Once all the evidence and points of view are revealed, we all can make a better judgement.

But let me pose this question. The jury will have to decide who to believe, Kobe or the girl. People say that she has tried to commit suicide and is crazy. So I ask, who do you trust more, a person who tried to commit suicide, or a person who commits adultery? Remember only person who was dishonest was the one who commited adultery.

I heard a local AM jock on the way home today say, the buzz is that it wasn't necessarily a vaginal rape... Are there sodomy laws in Colorado? 20 years + 1?

The Fixer
(The Pie/Marriott)

Baby, I'm a fixer
Catch me if you can
But you better watch your woman
'Cause I'm a backdoor man
Backdoor man

Baby, I'm a kickster
In your neighborhood
I'm a trickster
A low-down son of evil

I don't need no magic potion
To walk on black tar, boy
All I need's emotion
That leaves me a rollin' stone
Roll away, yeah

I tell you I'm a fixer
Catch me if you can
Keep your eyes on your woman
'Cause I'm a backdoor man
I'm a fixer, baby
I'm a fixer
I'm a fixer, babe
I'm a fixer. babe
I'm a kickster

"the chick has the last Say"

think about this first.

what if she has given permition for 9 strokes and says no at the tenth?

what if she says no after 80% penetration?

what if you can't hear her because she is mumbling no and you think she's humming?

these questions are not in jest, unlsess that is her name. the pendulum may have swung too much.

the moving finger writes, and having writ moves on, nor all your piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line

when a young woman goes to someone's otel room in the middle of the night and expects to play checkers, she is delusional or lying to herself.

when she is willing to "fool around" and then stop when she feels she has had enough, she is not playing fair. maybe that is why her former boyfriend dumped her. maybe she is psycohtic. how many people ry to commit suicide "when your lover has gone."

remember kobe said, "i didn't do anything to her that she didn't want me to do."

well if kobe is found guily and goes to jail, the world will have lost what is potentially the greatest player ever to play basketball, but will have gained a desk clerk who will deliver food in the middle of the night and forget the silverware.

their is an impolite word for a woman like that and there is a good reason for the word to have been invented.

Sorry Rick but, if Kobe is convicted the world will simply have put another rapist behind bars. Besides, there will be basketball courts in prison so it not like he's totally lost.

You'll find most state laws are specific about what consent is. Going to a hotel room and even fooling around is not consent. Even revoking consent is allowed. You won't find state laws saying that once she agreed to start, she must finish.

The way this case will play out is the defense will attack the victim, as just some miscellaneous desk clerk who may have a history of instability. This pretty much is the standard "attack the whore victim" approach. However, none of these issues affects whether the victim has the right to say "No".
The victim will be attacked as a gold digger. The problem here is that a gold digger would wait a while and try to extort money and in this case the police were contacted that night and medical attention was sought.

At this point is still comes down to Kobe's word against hers. Since he already admitted that sex took place the only issue is consent and his conviction hangs in the balance. The prosecution will present hotel staff and police officers from that night to testify about their observations. The prosecution will also present doctors and nurses from the hospital.

The entire case will hinge on the testimony of the doctors and nurses from the hospital where both Kobe and the alleged victim were taken that night. If the medical staff testifies about "injuries consistent with non-consentual sex", Kobe is in serious trouble.
Nevertheless, Kobe will get his day in court to make his case.

I once spent a month as a juror on a double rape/attenpted murder case in San Diego so I am familiar with this sort of trial. It is not the most appealing subject matter to be involved with and won't make great "Court TV" except it involves a celebrity.

As for the process of being a juror, I would recommend it to everyone. Don't try to skip out on jury duty, instead hope you get picked for a jury. You will learn a tremendous amount about our judical system and some of the most basic rights that this country fights for every day.

You'll see how the check and balance of the court system can throw out improperly obtained evidence even though the Patriot Act made it easier to obtain a search warrant initially.

However, if you're a convicted felon, this won't apply because you know we purged our voter registration rolls here in Florida of all covicted felons. Wink!

Tom

Okay guys...from a womens prospective...I think he is innocent. Here you have a star struck young lady who thinks what she has is all that and a bag of potato chips.. I think she just didn't get what she expected from this "Star" and she decided to retaliate against him... First of all she had to know he was married but really didn't give a ****..so that in its self tells me what kind of person she is. As for Kobe, yea he probably did have sex with her and I hope his wife does take him for all she can. I hate cheaters and they all get their well deserved rewards in the end.

The jury specialists who discuss this said that women are harder on women than men are in these cases and that his defense would be well served by a jury of women (more women on the jury = better chances for acquittal).

Guys, don't get me wrong...if it turns out he did it and I was on the jury I would be the first to cast my vote for the max. BUT, it would have to be without reasonable doubt. I myself was in an abusive relationship for 19 years but I still wouldn't have sympathy on someone who is lying just to get something for nothing. This is what I feel she is doing. MPO.

Rick potato chips are potato chips...LOL Some just advertise more effectively...LMAO!!!
