That is odd that a beaver would be rabid.
Not that they can't, but it isn't that common.
I have a beaver skull in my office (long story) and the teeth are 4" long.
Their teeth are like a guillotine. They are all over here and at times, we have to remove them to prevent them from flooding fields because of their dams.
The child is lucky it didn't take fingers off.
I have seen beaver bite through a 2" limb in one bite.

good post Doc... not that I gotta worry bout that much anymore... bein Married and all... but I used to like to pet every beaver I came across!!! sometimes I would get close enough to smellin distance of them too... I knew of them carryin a string of different types a disease but never had one that had Rabies that I can recall!!!! neatest one I ever seen was clean shaven.. at first I thought it had a skin problem but later realized it was razor stubble!!! the beaver problem here in Illinois isn't a flooding problem... seem's allot of the Illinois Beavers get plenty of food and seem to stock up on it in the winter months... thus becoming some heavy Beavers!!! I think the guy who sings that Song... Big Brown Beaver musta been from Illinois or was visiting when he decided to write it?? all for now..
Again thanks for the post and update Doc... I'll keep my eye's out for them Rabid Beavers here locally...If I get cought spotting any, I'll just tell the Mrs. Doc said there's a bad case of Rabid Beaver and we gotta be on the lookout!!!!

Laterzzzz

Remember too....Nowadays even "personal protection" is not a sure-fire guarantee against Beaver diseases.
