I guess Im the minority when it comes to these sticks. IMHO they are way over priced and overhyped. Its the Cabbage Patch/ Elmo syndrome. Squeek a few out every now and then and charge way to much for an ordinary cigar because its "hard to come by". I had another this weekend and like every other Opus I tried it left me wanting to smoke something else. All I could think was that I was glad I didnt have to pay for this one.

Peace Out

I have yet to try my first Opus X. No dealer around here will carry them. It will be a good one when I finally get my hands on one.

i agree with you, not to denigrate any smokers who love them. they are a good smoke but i wouldn't pay the price for another one.

Wow ... BeatDragon and I agree on a cigar?!?

As hot as it is in the Bay Area these days ... maybe 'hell' did freeze over ... LOL!

I too think OpusX are over priced and over-hyped. Oh ... don't get me wrong, I've had several that were exceptionally good (Chris gave me one at the BAD herf, and BMW gave me a couple that fit the bill) ... but those were the exceptions. Heck, even over at CF, there is a thread going on right now about the 'sucky' OpusX out there ... overabundance of tar building up, plugged cigars, and wrappers that just unravel and fall off ...

I compare them to ISOM's as far as the quality control goes ... when you get a good one, it's better than anything you've ever had before. But get a bad one ... and you are cussing yourself out for spending so much money on it ... and it seems that lately, it's a gamble on which one it's going to be.

Me and Godfather's local cigar man has been trying to get an account with Fuente to sell OpusX.

His store has been in business for decades, and you have to be the cigar biz at least five years before you can open a direct account with Fuente. He's had that account forever and they still won't let him sell OpusX.

Fuente has been really bad in recent years about dicking over regional and small-time tobacconists in favor of either the huge top 100 stores or the catalogues (I guess since they have larger audiences). They have self-created exclusivity for the OpusX, which gives them license to charge entirely too much for it.

This and other things Fuente has done to our local guy has made him so mad, that he's about stop buying Fuentes entirely! I hope this doesn't happen, but if it does, I can't blame him.

ikonoklast7 --- this is a list of the official MSRP for OpusX ...

http://www.keenwebs.com/herfindex/opus.htm

Although many retailers will charge what ever the 'supply and demand' commands ... if they 'gouge' customers too much over the MSRP, and the Fuente Rep finds out about it ... they can lose their license to sell Fuente products.

That said, it's also hard to enforce sometimes (as many retailers won't put the price on the cello or near the box) ... and they will just 'quote' you a price when you ask.

Here is the list of the other Fuente product sizes and MSRPs ...

I've heard from my tobacconist that they can be "challanging" to deal with...

I sent Tinman one of the #4's that I picked up in Jacksonville for $8.50 a stick. I thought that was a good deal. I have had a lot worse for 8.50...

Another good example of how A. Fuente can be "challenging," as Robby so subtly put it, is over advertising.

Fuente will give tobacconists with accounts something like a $100 a year to go towards advertising if they so wish.

My local guy had a big, neon window sign made advertising Arturo Fuente for a few hundred smackers...and then Fuente renigged and didn't give him a penny!

I have 2 that were traded to me and have yet to try one. My local shop carries the full line but I thought the price was too high. They sit in a 'special' area near the Diamond Crown and Acids????
