Hey everybody,
Just got a frantic phonecall. It seems a customer of mine, who was telling me about some turtle eggs she had rescued from her dogs, had misidentified the eggs in question. She had put them into an aquarium, luckily with a lid, and had them in her kitchen, hoping for her daughters to get to see the turtles hatching out. Well they started hatching this morning. Her daughters got to see, first hand the hatching, of a clutch, of timber rattlesnakes. Now she has an aquaruim with 25 baby rattlers, and another 10-20 eggs still unhatched. She has called me up, as many of my friends and neighbors do when they find snakes. She wants me to take them to be released, they are protected. I called the forest service, and told them about them. They don't know what to tell me to do with them. They did tell me that it is illegal to have them in captivity, and that I must release them promptly. I asked them where, they told me where ever the eggs were found. I am sure the laddy doesn't want the snakes back in her barn, and told them so. They said to take them somewhere nearby, that is sparsely populated. I started metioning the different places, where I could release them, and the woman on the phone told me, "No thats next to my house!" I mentioned another place, Her coworker objected, that it was too close to his house. It seems, that these great defenders of the wildlife, want me to release these snakes, as long as it's not in their neighborhood. LOL I guess I will take them out behind our local Senators house, and release them there, he hasn't been representing me very well, in my opinoin. Then at least they would have some good company. LOL. I told them that I would be happy to bring them down to their office, so their biologists could release them, and was told that I would probably be arrested, for having them in captivity. So I have decided, the first place I thought of to release them, near the biologists house, is the right one. Then they can deal with them at home instead of dealing with them at work. I just had to tell ya'll about this one.

Nice story.

Now find someone you don't like and release them all around the house. Some on the porch, some in the basement, and throw a couple in their car.

Or, maybe you can trade a few baby rattlers for a couple of nice sticks. With the diversity in this group there is probably an avid collector somewhere.

LOL....

don't flush them down the toilet. they will keep growing until one day a ten footer will find his way back through the pipes, to your toilet, where he will bite your ass.

why are they protected. you said something about "these great defenders of the wildlife." do you have any idea what they defend?

Good luck on finding a safe release point.
As you said, these great defenders of wildlife. It's funny how they react when wildlife is looking them in the face.

Mail them to the PETA people.

Seeing as though it was in innocent mistake on the lady's part, I'm surprised the forest service did not come down and pick them up. What a bunch of backwards tree huggers.

Well,
I handled it. Picked them up, in an aquarium, about 2 oclock, this afternoon. Dumped them out, about 100 yards from the forest service office. Figure they don't mind seeing them around. Where did they think I would drop them off, near my house????

P.S. They were cute little buggers though. I wonder if the rangers will kill any of the ones, that find their way into their shop. There were about 23 snakes hatched, by the time I dropped them off.
