I just smoked an Evelio. At first sight the wrapper is ugly as sin. Once lit it had a surprising flavor. Kind of a leather/nutmeg thing going on there. And it left my lips a little dry. It wasn't to bad at all. The strange thing was the way the wrapper burned. It had little sparks and you could hear them popping lightly.
Maybe the tobacco had something added to make it burn even. I don't know. Overall it wasn't to bad. I think I'll definately try more of them. Anybody else have this kind of thing happen?

ajeroth - Only sparks I've seen on a cigar where after drinking too much bourbon. What were you drinking???

Seriously - I have seen sparks on the wrapper - I think the cigar was a Don Kiki 2000 robusto. Never had it happen to any other cigar, at least none that I noticed. Just like you described though.

I have a few Evelios sitting in my humi - I'll break one out tonight and let you know if I have any cool 'effects'.

did the wrapper have a lot of tooth? if it did, the sparks could have been the little oil pockets igniting.

i am smoking an elevio as i read this thread. second one this morning. actually it's still last night. i stayed awake to see what time my hummers hit. first one at 5:55 and by 6:15 almost 2 dozen.

back to the evelio. i have always liked this cigar and a few years ago i remember the wrapper was smooth and silky feeling. also it was a lighter color. this smokes a little stronger, but it isn't going snap, crackle, pop. i didn't want to hold it too close to my ear because i am near sighted and i don't want to burn my ear. i'm not dutch and i can't paint.

Everytime I smoke a Black Pearl I notice this. The oils from the wrapper start to bubble up where the ash meets the cigar, and I can hear the burn 'crackling' like a tiny campfire :)

God I love that cigar.

Rick...at your age a Hummer at 5 A.M. is a heck of a way to start the day. Just make sure it doesn't end the day...69
