Do I take the cello's off or leave em...

sorry, just kidding, I did search the archive and find my answer to that(great archives by the way). But I have an equally stupid newbie question that I couldn't find anything on in the archives.

For anyone that has ever owned both an all wood humidor and a showcase type humidor with a lot of glass...was one easier than the other to regulate the humidity in? or doesn't it really matter?

Thanks in Advance

... all depends on how big, what type of humidifier you are using, how many cigars you have in them, and how good the seal is ...

And how far you're trying to move humidity off center and how often you open it. i.e., if it's February in a cold climate, and your heater is running non-stop, and the humidity in your house is 10%, it's going to be hard to hold 70% regardless unless you have an active system. If it's 60% in your house, it's not too difficult to hold 70.

A large part of it that people miss is the ambient conditions. If you’re in a cold climate and have to cook the furnace, you REALLY need a portable humidifier for the room/area of the house where the humi is. Or a whole house unit on your house system. Likewise in high humidity conditions, a dehumidifier. Mine runs almost solid from June to September and makes the house much more comfortable.

My Opinion: All things being equal, an all wood humidor is going to be easier. It has the advantage of "breathing" as well as being slower to reflect changes in RH (from opening the door, etc.). Also, in my experience once you have established the desired environment in terms of temp and RH it is easier to maintain at that level. With glass, plexiglass, plastic, etc., the environment changes dramatically very quickly and you have to re-establish optimal conditions all over again. My words haven't conveyed my thoughts as well as I would like, but you get my general drift...........
