My last post about the PAM's and Opus got me thinking.... being relatively new to cigars... I'm still furiously trying every cigar that's been recommended to me or has piqued my interest, but I wonder if there will ever come a time when I have tried all of them, and just settle down with my favorite. It might not be that hard since I would have to pick a different "favorite" for different times and occassions (morning, after big meal, with certain beverages, etc....). But I wonder.... let's say that one day you actually found the "perfect" cigar. Even if it was possible to get a lifetime supply of them... would that be all that you smoked? I just think that so much of the fun w/ cigars is trying all the different kinds. It's like part of our hunting and gathering instinct.... I don't think I could ever settle down with just "one" cigar..... hm.... maybe my wife shouldn't read this post.....

if she does, you are in permanent ****.

she will say, "if you have found the perfect cigar, why would you "cheat" and smoke something else."

prepare an answer now. be ready.

Ethan...isn't it like so many of the finer things in life like women, wine, food, fishing etc. it's really about the hunt or the voyage not the ultimate destination...it's the chase...aren't gars alot like that...life would be so boring if we ever stopped searching...CB

For me the perfect cigar is like my favorite song. It always changes depending on my mood. I may have a favorite song and after listening to it 100 times I grow bored with it. After a few months I might listen to it again and really like it. But my taste is always changing somedays its metal, somedays dance, somedays celtic. Who knows.

Same with cigars. If I smoke the same thing all the time I might gro bored with it. Somedays I like CAO, somedays Acid, somedays Perdomo. Guess it just depends on my mood at that time.

The answer is NO!!!!!!! You will never find THE PERFECT CIGAR, and that is a part of the fascination with this hobby/obsession/cult/quest/lifetime effort/focus we brothers of the leaf immerse ourselves in. Because how would you ever know as long as there was a cigar in existance that you haven't tried? And what about the new cigars that are coming out every year? Or the current cigars that are being updated with new wrappers and/or blends? Never happen. Be content with a lifetime of reaching for the fruit that is just beyond your outstretched fingertips. Ahhhhh! The torment we condemn ourselves to! Ain't it grand?

If I had a Life time supply of H. Upmann Magnum 46, I would be fairly content. The only thing better, would be a life time supply of Guinness to go with.

As far as trying all the smokes available, 80% of the $5 plus smokes I try, I'd never try again.

That would be like eating the same favorite food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Couldn't do that. Besides, they are always releasing new things or old cigars have aged into a different taste. Gotta catch 'em all.

It's not the lack of a perfect cigar that frustrates me...it's the fact that getting cigars is like finding that knockout babe who you find out is 16...you have to age them a while before it's wise to smoke them!!!

Finding the perfect cigar isn't about finding one cigar that's 'perfect'. To me, it's about the moment.

Finding the perfect moment in the day, where everything is just right. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, whatever you are smoking......you have that moment where everything is right in the world and you are truly happy. Every cigar, whether it's and old standby, or something new....every cigar is a different experience. Some are good, some are bad, but some of them....some of them are just right.

You have that moment....

Smoking my first PAM with a buddy I hadn't seen in 2 years.....I'll never forget that.

Smoking a Hemi Work of Art after I just moved into a new house......I'll never forget that.

Everyone has those moments. I'm fairly young, so I have many moments like this to look forward to and I can't wait. There are so many good smokes out there, and you may never find the 'perfect' one for you, but it's having those moments that make it worth the search......

funjohnny

P.S. - Can someone hand me a kleenex?? =)

I have one or two perfect cigars a week and they are seldom the same cigar. The LFD 2000 Cab #4 I had yesterday was perfect. The DC Maximus robusto I had a few days earlier was perfect. Sometimes the next time I try a perfect cigar it is not perfect. I wish I knew whether it is my taste or the cigar which is fickle. Probably both. Many, many variables come together to make a perfect smoking experience: food, drink, surroundings, companions, etc. Enjoy the quest!
