I went with a friend tonight to a fellow’s house who was supposedly selling a large, old, and high quality selection of cigars for pennies on the dollar…

We drove a half an hour to get there.

All the while, my anticipation peaking… What would it be? Aged Cubans? A flock of Fuentes? A Plethora of Pardons?

It was a COMPLETE waste of gasoline! He had a few good cigars, but the majority were mediocre.

When I pulled an 858 sungrown and an Ashton Aged Maduro from “one” of the humidors, he said, it’s all or nothing. You have to buy all of them. For 4 dollars a piece.

The problem is that came to 1700 bux. The bigger problem is, there were a large number of (two initial imitation) cigars, i.e., if you like xyz, you’ll like these! Also, a bunch of other mediocre cigars, when we brought this to his attention, he was incredulous. He said, no cigar in there is worth less than 4 dollars!! We said, oh no, look at the these, (the “if you like those, you’ll like these” cigars) we said, these go for less than a dollar a piece.

It was a big disappointment… I had birthday bux. I was hoping to SCORE!

This guy lived in a 2 million dollar house… His cigars were mediocre and mixed. He had everything jumbled with everything else. If I ever have such a sale, people would be well advised to attend early and bring money!!

Yeah, that's no good at all. I assume those alts you are referring to are "J"ust "R"ejects.

I love that the catalog has both MSRP and "J"ust "R"ejects prices. As if anybody else sells these. And even by the fake MSRP they would be between $2-2.5/stick. He wanted $4 each!??? You did right to walk away.

I know the guy you were attepting to buy from was still alive, but personally, they won't get any of my cigars until I assume room temperature and I'd be offended if they attempt to sell the Thomas Hinds for the same price as the Padrons, CAO, Ashtons, Fuentes, ect.

Your post has inspired me to designate a c-bid recipient to get and then distribute all my cigars. After all, who would appreciate them as much as you guys? Not that I plan on checking out anytime soon, but you never know?!

morbidly pickled yours,
Bil

I don't know if I'd trust any of You Guys with My final arrangements. You'd be likely to put Me in a Spanish Cedar box to see if I'd improve after a couple years!

You can bet we'd be evenly split over whether you were moldy or covered in plume.

He probably bought all the sticks during the boom when prices were ridiculous.

Bummers about wasting the gas though.
