Today, I was a true brother of the leaf.
This board has taught me a lot about the generosity and camaraderie of being a cigar smoker. I've seen how generous people like emgjet, jazzman, hoagie55, mrandmrsfox, and billyjackson have been, and it's really inspired me. You guys seem so selfless and generous and eager to spread the love that is cigar smoking, and I can only aspire to be just like you all.
Chris (godfather) and I had a smoke last weekend when he came to visit me at IU. We were out in the courtyard enjoying a cigar, while talking to a freshman named Andy.
Andy talked about how he'd always wanted to try a cigar, so Chris said he'd leave a smoke for Andy to try. Later, me and Chris traded some smokes, and he threw in an extra for me to give to Andy. He said I should either give him an Oliva Cameroon or a Nat Sherman.
So today, I saw Andy in the courtyard of my dorm right as I was lighting up and we talked. He said he was just killing a few hours, so I asked if he wanted that cigar Chris left.
He said he'd try it, so I ran up to my room to select one. I thought about the ones Chris left...but I decided to do one better.
I selected a Montecristo Magnum, one of my most favorite cigars, and gave it for Andy to try. I thought it was an appropriate smoke, because its mild enough for a newbie to enjoy without his head swimming, but still has a great flavor, smooth smoke, creamy medium-bodied taste, and great construction any smoker can enjoy. That's why it's one of my all-time favorites, and now his too!
Before this, Andy said he'd only had Black & Milds and Jewels, but now he agrees he isn't going back. We had a great time talking out in the courtyard, enjoying some good smokes, and I loved the feeling of telling him about cigars and passing on some of my knowledge (a lot of it that I've gained from this forum) to a new appreciater of the fine art that is a cigar.
I feel like a real brother of the leaf...and I couldn't have done it without all you guys! Thank you.
