Does anyone on this board actually like listening to his bumbling patter during games?

Last night I watched a few minutes of the Jets/Redskins game. At one point Madden said the ball was thrown to low and when they show the replay the receiver is jumping up in the air as it sails over his head. Then they are talking about how bad birthdays on Valentine's day is because everyone forgets your birthday. The other guy says "I feel sorry for the people who's birthday is on Halloween". Then Madden says yeah and December 25th is good.

Why is this guy still allowed to talk during these games. He is either clueless or drunk.

Ahhh...it seems that as with ACIDs, you either love or hat Madden. I love him. But I understand those who hate.

(I like ACIDs, too!)

Can't even stand down-wind from someone smoking an Acid, much less smoke one myself ...

But ... I like Madden well enough ...

I smoke acids(occasionally) and I can handle Madden in small amounts. His whiteboard and stop/start action repeatedly drives me nuts along with second guessing the coaches.

I vote him off.

I watch the games from the comfort of my hot tub. If the volume is turned up, I still can't hear it. I don't need anybody to tell me what's going on in the game. I like to watch the "trenches". Not too many people see it from that perspective, but you can tell who's going to win or lose by watching right there. I was lucky enough to live around professional football players and got to see the tape that they see. A pure top-down view. Every wonder what the blimps are doing at the games? Take a look up at any dome and you'll see the "eye in the sky". I wish TV would give us options to watching a game like the views from a video game. That would be awesome.

I think he was good in his day. But now he just stumbles over his words a lot, tries to be funny and isn't (enough already with the Thanksgiving Tur-duck-en), and just plain calls things wrong. My wife who isn't even into football even picks out when he miscalls something.

Two words: Forced Retirement

Oh and for the record I like Acid cigars a lot.

One of my all time sports quotes was from Madden and it went like this (Yelling at his linebackers in practice) "Don't worry about the ox, just load the cart"! When asked what it meant, Madden looked puzzled and told the reporter, "I really don't know but it sure as hell works"!

Don't like Acids, and think Madden is sort of fun person to listen to, he can grate on you, but he is ok!

I actually heard him say once

"You know, the way for this team to win is for them score more points than the other team."

Wow, such Wisdom... MK

It doesn't feel like a real game if Madden isn't calling commentary. I love when he takes out the white crayon and draws lines all over the slo-mo replay. The guy knows football. So he makes a few mistakes, the rest of the commentators are all boring.
At least he's entertaining

I'll miss him,much like I miss Cossell.

toby and i watched feregamo and some local sports reporter "call" the game between the rams and i don't remember who.

point is they reported the game."2nd and 7". "incomplete pass." "stopped at the line"

simple.

the rest of these so called sports announcers never shut up. they don't report, they tell why it was a bad throw, a bad play call, he should have ... it's like being in a movie theater with someone talking all the time.

if you watch any of the "classic sports" from ten or 15 years ago, there is very little chatting and BS coming from the announcers.

thur night football with joe thiesman is the prime example of how not to add "color" to a game. if he would just shut up, i would not have to mute the sound between plays.

You want to ruin an excellent football game let John Madden open his slobbery mouth. They ought to stick one of those large turkey legs up his ass and ship him back to Okland to call the Raiders games, that's where he belongs. JonR

I think Rush Limbaugh could become the greatest sports commentator of all time.

Went to Madden's BBQ a couple of months ago and my opinion totally changed. He throws a BBQ for all of his sponsors(he has a radio show) and we're one of the largest. He was very nice and generally a good guy, the funny thing was that he is actually very shy in person. I don't like his commentary, but he's a great guy!!

i think you need to go back to the name brands. the generics don't always do the job.

" slobbery mouth"

you are a poet, an observer of men, and an altogether charming person.
