A little background first.

After smoking cigars for 25 years I find it odd to ask this question as I've always just bought a box or two and put them in my humidor. My smoke time was the hour+ drive home and that was good. However, a job change now leaves me with only a 15 min commute. Because of this I'm now smoking more while relaxing at home and buying better cigars. As my collection is growing I'm looking at a cabinet (end table) size humidor.

My question is this: Do you de-cello all of the cigars when they are stored in their original boxes in a humidor? I de-celloed when I stored them in a smaller humidor but is it necessary in a larger size one? What do YOU do?

I keep the plastic on because after you remove the cigar (upon smoking) you can warm up the cello with your lighter, which turns the trapped moisture inside into steam. This is very cool and you should try it if you have not. As always, safety glasses and outdoors with fire extinguishers aimed.

Personal choice and up to you on the cello. I leave it on as it keeps the cigar protected and less prone to mold and humidity variations (to a degree). When I've left cigars out of the cello in my humidor, they quickly the RH in the humidor very quickly. When I charged my humidor, they immediately soaked the excess RH and actually ballooned with moisture. The wrapper became loose and actually unwrapped on several as I moved them to a slightly drier humidor to demoisturize.

For your cigars sake, leave em on.

Cheers,

Grond

I have done both and didn't see a differance. But I like to have the cello on if they are going in the car for an hour or two.

Thanks for the thoughtful answers, I guess I'll leave the cello on until the box is about half empty and I transfer them into the singles drawers. The best of both worlds!
