I tried my first Diamond Crown Maximus, thanks to eleltea ... it was the Robusto no. 5 ...

I was going to try to let it rest awhile, but I just couldn't stop thinking about it. Everytime I passed by my humidor ... it keep beckoning to me ...

It was an excellent cigar, and a pleasure to smoke! A real taste treat, very complex and full of flavor.

What I noticed from the first puff ... is how much it reminded me of an 858SG, but a bit more powerful in it's punch. Thick smoke, an easy draw, and perfect construction ... and every puff delivered more of it's wonderful flavor.

It just kept getting better and better ... all the way to the end, and it left me with a great taste on my palate, one that lasted well into the afternoon.

Well worth the high $$$, IMHO, and I will be smoking more of these, if I can find them ... LOL!

Definately 'top-shelf' ...

I was given one to give to another friend. I have been holding it for a week, because I have yet to see the guy who I am supposed to give it to. You have no idea how it calls to me. This is torture. It's like "sleeping" with a female friend, and "just cuddling". AAAARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

What X said is unethical. Tell your friend it burned up in an unfortunate fire.

Slim, it is unaminous. You and X and I agree this is an 858 SG kicked up a notch. The best thing is, Fuente-Newman will continue making these for a while! I believe they will be available approx every six weeks. Glad you liked it.

eleltea --- it is indeed a great cigar, but definately worthy of it's own class.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it and 858SG (kicked up a notch) though ... because I believe that even though it has the sun-grown wrapper, the blend is different from the 858SG ...

... and besides, you know what kind of 'uproar' that would create ... hehehe!

Thanks again ...

I might also add ... after some extensive research, and discussing it with a few knowledgeable friends over at CF ... this is what we concluded:

They are nothing more than a slightly modified DC blend, with a sungrown wrapper. They have a smaller ring guage than the normal DC's, so you will tend to get more flavor ... and the sungrown wrapper adds the punch. That is what we feel has been missing from the DC line. But, you will STILL taste the DC flavor, and these are only medium bodied cigars.
