I have a few of these La Carona's Obscuros, with a thick jet black wrapper. I tried to smoke one last night, the first puff was excellent, but then I had a hell of a time try to keep the wrapper burning, and the smoke started to tunnel. This thick wrapper just wouldn't burn well. So my question is, how best to prepare these types of cigars in advance, does it burn better when a bit dryer or more humid even?

I've been smoking cigars for 40 years and had this promblem with OpusX as well as other $2 sticks. It's been my experience that aging will sometimes correct the problem. I think that most of the time the tobacco is not cured properely nor choice of tobacco in the construction adequate.

La Corona oscuros have a "cooked" maduro wrapper - darkened by heating the wrapper leaves artificially, not letting them age as most maduros. The tipoff is that they will leave stains on your lips, tongue, fingers, etc. Naturally aged maduros are entirely different, having a more natural look, no stains, and that great maduro taste. Thankfully, only a handful of cigar makers cook their wrappers - and none of the big names like Fuente, Villazon, etc.
